I am so sorry you are here. How awful. I can't know for sure what you're going through -- I'm not a parent -- but I can relate to feeling like you're stuck spinning on a wheel and never getting away from a perp... in my case, someone who assaulted me in college who occasionally pops back up.
L, can I ask if you really want to participate with him in counseling? To get him to play nice on custody? You have an absolute right to your fear, and to wanting to protect your kids from him! An absolute right; he's earned that fear and distrust, and he continues to. I don't know what his acting up entails, nor where you live (and what the laws there are like), but you may be able to legally protect your family from having anything to do with him at all.
He may never see that you're being a healthy and protective mom; he may just be that sick. But WE all know what a great mom you are, and we're here to support you. Post anytime you need/want to, okay?
