Don't think of the end of this relationship as a divorce. It is a death. He caused this not you. There is no way you can continue to have him involved in your life. He killed the relationship. No one would expect you to stay around him. I tried to care for the elderly offender out of what I believe was my duty. It was the hardest decision I ever made, but he left and now I can be with my grandchildren. His leaving was the best thing he could have done for me.
