Yahoo! she's in paint!
Started with a panel shading session because I wanted to do the deicer boots and nose now, as they would be easier to mask.
Next I sprayed an initail coat of Floquil bright Silver. Let that dry and then wet sanded the whole thing with 1500 grit-I had missed some scratches and there were some problem areas (still are... but at some point enough is enough!)-and reduced the paint to about 50% and blew color on again at qabout 110psi misting for gloss, not coverage. Fantastic-unfortunately, it looks too much like natural metal (never comes out that nice when I want a NMF!!!), oh well, I can live with it. Please notice how amazing that wing looks-go back and review how much mud, primer, sanding and scribbing went into that. I started this thing September 15th!
After some dry time I masked the cheat line and sprayed the top and tail white.
More time and more masking and I sprayed the wing panel/horizontal tail areas with Model Master International Orange. Again I way reduced the paint and sprayed light coats at high pressure to reduce thickness build. Had a gear failure at this point... lots of handeling and more to come, but the metal that RVHP uses will not bond with my super glue. If I thought epoxy would work, and look okay, I would go that way... What to do?
Now for the unmasking. Unfortunately, the tape, even detacked, pulled some of the metalic and white. Oh well-I will do some masking and touch up the silver areas. The whits is small enough I may be able to use a brush and get good results.
Once the touch up is done I will mask and paint the large SAR band on the tail. I have decals for it, but I am betting with all the odd angles back there that it will be infinately easier to paint it. I will also paint the antiglare panel on the nose, and the exhaust panels in the upper wing (think skyraider...) Then, I need to mask and paint the walk ways up on top as the kit supplied decals are the wrong color and I did not get any with the CSR-110 decals. Lots more masking, handeling and touch up to go-but it looks like a CSR-110 now!
Cheers
