Hey Ho All - I've been living over on the Airfix Forum the last wee while working on the 1/24 scale Big Spit. While that project is tied up in trying to whip the exhaust stacks into shape, I'm trying to knock off a quick build of a little adversary for the Spit. Picked up the Hobby Boss Me109 E4/7 kit in 1/72 scale for a measly 8 bucks on sale! Work starts by test fitting a pilot into the cockpit. The figure is from the old Monogram Dornier 17 kit. The seat sits a little too low, so I put in a shim of plastic on the seat mount to raise it just a tad:

I have photocopies of all sorts of instrument panel decals.
I scissor out the little indiviual instruments until I have a pile of them, like confetti. I pop 'em on one at a time with dots of superglue:

The panel looks pretty good (from a distance) sitting inside the fuselage:

Now for a few bits of interior detail. Not much, because not much will be seen.
A trim wheel cobbled together from parts off an old Fotocut photoetch fret, featuring various bits for WW1 aircraft:

A teeny throttle quadrant from bits of sheet and sprue:

Some paint and some paper shoulder straps for the Herr Oberst:

The wing to fuselage fit is not too bad, and our boy sits nicely under that canopy:

So far so good. Now some quick research on RLM colours (of which I know so little) and scrounge through the decal spares. I know I have Luftwaffe stuff in there somewhere!
Best...Ted...

HyperScale's Group Build Guidelines

The objective of this Group Build is to encourage as many modellers as possible to build their kits and share their progress via words and photos on this Forum.

You are welcome to post general construction tips or relevant reference information and photos to this Forum too.

This Group Build will feature WWI Aircraft Kits.

  1. This Group Build will run until 31 December, 2011.

  2. Build as many kits as you like.

  3. Conversions, aftermarket and scratchbuilding are all permitted.

  4. Any markings are acceptable.

  5. Document your progress and do a write-up on your build - where did you have trouble, what improvements did you make, what markings did you choose and why? It would be GREAT if everyone would do a writeup and submit it to HyperScale as a Feature Article.
