Hueys and Seafires

Bell 210,
This conversion is a melding of two kits to make one. Bell is taking UH-1D/H and refurbishing them with up rated engines and rotor system and giving them the longer nose section from the 212/412 UH-1N Then main portion is an Italleri UH-1D “Slick” kit. (The old ESCI molds live on) I have replaced the main cabin doors with ones from Fireball ModelworksUh-1 detail set. I have also found that using Vacuumed seal product packaging is much easier to use the clear styrene. This model also has new brass, soldered landing skids. The left side window/door has been modified to take a smash formed “blown directed view” window. Soon I’ll add the entry steps, mirrors, lights, antennas, and then hunt down the decals.

The other kit on my desk is a Seafire MkIII, this was a Heller MkVb, Re-scribed, the lines for the wing fold added, new gun locations added and new gun fairings made and will be added later. Decals are coming from Model Art and, will give me a start on making a 1/72nd Scale Seafire MkXVII, with some help from an Airfix kit to pattern after. Now I just have to make a control column for the cockpit. And I should be ready to mask and paint.

Nice colour scheme on the chopper - some sharp masking there, and that can be a real bear with what looks like gloss or semi-gloss paints you're using. I agree that vacu-formed packaging material can be nice and easy to use for clear parts, and I presume that's what you're using for the blown side windows. But a cautionary note: the clear plastic used in commercial packaging can come in many forms and formulas, and much of it will yellow over time. Just sayin' - trust me, I know!

That Bell looks great, with the taller nose - I thought it was a 212, but I don't know so much about these things

Great paint work - a nightmare to mask I think

HyperScale's Group Build Guidelines

The objective of this Group Build is to encourage as many modellers as possible to build their kits and share their progress via words and photos on this Forum.

You are welcome to post general construction tips or relevant reference information and photos to this Forum too.

This Group Build will feature WWI Aircraft Kits.

  1. This Group Build will run until 31 December, 2011.

  2. Build as many kits as you like.

  3. Conversions, aftermarket and scratchbuilding are all permitted.

  4. Any markings are acceptable.

  5. Document your progress and do a write-up on your build - where did you have trouble, what improvements did you make, what markings did you choose and why? It would be GREAT if everyone would do a writeup and submit it to HyperScale as a Feature Article.
