Hello friends

Finally I could start my entry for the Golden Age Group Build

KP_LetovS20 016.JPG

Initially I had one of these classics in mind

KPoldcol01.JPG

But then I thought

... why shouldn't I treat myself with a more modern - and easy - tooling happy.gif ?

KP_LetovS20 005.JPG

It's almost Christmas you know...

KP_LetovS20 004.JPG

On top of the red tailed scheme on the box

... you get 2 more all green schemes

KP_LetovS20 003.JPG

Only one sprue

KP_LetovS20 006.JPG

Nice details

Two choices of propellers

KP_LetovS20 007.JPG

Fuselage ribs

... maybe I will tone them down a little bit...

KP_LetovS20 008.JPG

Sharp trailing edges

KP_LetovS20 009.JPG

Some basic interior detail

KP_LetovS20 010.JPG

All parts look very crisp

KP_LetovS20 011.JPG

Decals

KP_LetovS20 012.JPG

And some clear film - for the windshields (two types)

KP_LetovS20 013.JPG

Colored instructions

KP_LetovS20 014.JPG

Making clear which parts you don't need

KP_LetovS20 036.JPG

The red tailed scheme (for "war games") in more detail

KP_LetovS20 015.JPG

Interior parts

KP_LetovS20 017.JPG

Primer

KP_LetovS20 019.JPG

... and paint

KP_LetovS20 020.JPG

The cockpit doesn't have a floor

KP_LetovS20 021.JPG

Decals for the instrument panel

... and for the seat belts

KP_LetovS20 023.JPG

Which was a first for me to use

... and well... bleh !

KP_LetovS20 024.JPG

The instrument panel decal didn't always line up with all the raised detail

KP_LetovS20 025.JPG

Future

KP_LetovS20 026.JPG

Satin clear varnish

KP_LetovS20 027.JPG

And here we go...

KP_LetovS20 029.JPG

The "floor" and "seat rest" are attached into the fuselage through tiny pins

KP_LetovS20 030.JPG

Guess what...

The holes for the pins didn't line up sad.gif

KP_LetovS20 031.JPG

Using white glue for the instrument panel

KP_LetovS20 032.JPG

Because it is not rounded - having corners - not ideal for gluing it to the fuselage

KP_LetovS20 025.JPG

Czechoslovakian pilots needed long legs

... very long legs !

KP_LetovS20 033.JPG

I thought about moving the pedals (?) closer to the pilot seat

KP_LetovS20 034.JPG

But probably it will not be seen through the small cockpit opening

KP_LetovS20 035.JPG

I was afraid for this

KP_LetovS20 037.JPG

But - as already said

... luckily it doesn't show through the small canopy opening

KP_LetovS20 038.JPG

Exhaust openings

KP_LetovS20 039.JPG

We don't want a see through effect

KP_LetovS20 040.JPG

Dropping the "hood" onto it

KP_LetovS20 041.JPG

... a little filler was needed here and there

KP_LetovS20 042.JPG

Maybe I was expecting too much - but this is still a limited run kit

... with some quirks - though nothing I can't handle so far happy.gif

Thanks all for your attention and support

Have a nice week friends

This one crossed my mind to build as well, I'll watch your progress with interest.

I underestimated things - again !

December 12 2016, 3:27 PM

I was hoping this fairly recent limited run kit would fall together and I would be able to finish it in one weekend

Alas... it's limited run nature still shows, it is not perfect - but (luckily) no putty monster either, so I will get there... I think happy.gif

Thanks Mark

You pick neat subjects

December 11 2016, 4:11 PM

I know next to nothing about Czech subjects, and there were obviously a lot more of them than I knew existed. This one has a cool "Albatros of the '20s" look to it.

Too bad about the wonky fit, but you never fail to conquer--watching with rapt attention!

Stuart

Now you mention it...

December 12 2016, 3:32 PM

You're right - it looks a bit like an Albatros on steroids... happy.gif

Though the wings are narrow... which seems to be typical Letov

Depending on how soon I can finish this one - I like to build one of these classic KP kits as well, very fascinating subjects - and nice kits for their time

Thanks Stuart

Off to a nice wholesome start William! Nice...

December 11 2016, 5:20 PM

choice of subject matter. I didn't even know about this new kit, it looks pretty nice for an LRK type of kit (limited run kit). Be looking forward to your next post....

Jon

I bought it exactly 2 years ago - give or take 2 weeks...

December 12 2016, 3:40 PM

I was pleasantly surprised and delighted to see something else then a Me-109 or P-51 being released as first kit for the revamping of the old KP name... in fact it was an excellent choice of them to revive this mythical brand with an old classic Czechoslovak biplane... and I bought it directly from AZ (owner of the KP name now) when they premiered the kit at Plastic Winter at the end of 2014

I liked it so much I called it my Kit of the Year - I never honored a kit before with such a title... and I planned/wanted to build it as soon as possible... well that didn't work out... until now - 2 years later !

I guess it's true what they say, Better late then never happy.gif

Thanks Jon

William. I have the winged dragon decals for the Lithuanian version if you want

December 12 2016, 6:49 PM

You'll need to supply the national markings though.

Those Lithuanian types look very tempting

December 13 2016, 1:37 PM

But I'm going with a Czechoslovakian scheme - I have a Czech girlfriend and I spend a lot of time in the Czech Republic, so it's somehow like a second nature for me happy.gif

But thanks for the offer - maybe I allow myself to build another one in Lithuanian markings - if I finish this one, despite all the nagging, this is a neat subject and build so far

Thanks Tim

Nice looking fuselage....

December 13 2016, 4:47 AM

Kind of like a pregnant Albatross happy.gif

I think that red tail is just what this olive in the sky needs.

Real nice William.

Cheers and Merry Xmas, Vic

I believe Albatrosses lay eggs

December 13 2016, 1:44 PM

... so they can not get pregnant - but I know what you mean happy.gif

I am still not sure about doing the red tail version - it was used during combined arms manoeuvres... so it is not really operational colors... and it is so "easy", I really feel like doing one of the plain jane green versions, this way it will fit better in with all the other Czechoslovakian fighters I like to build... but maybe I will get in a Christmas mood, and maybe I will fancy a little more red in my build... who knows... we'll see...

Thanks Vic

HyperScale's Group Build Guidelines

The objective of this Group Build is to encourage as many modellers as possible to build their kits and share their progress via words and photos on this Forum.

You are welcome to post general construction tips or relevant reference information and photos to this Forum too.

This Group Build will feature WWI Aircraft Kits.

  1. This Group Build will run until 31 December, 2011.

  2. Build as many kits as you like.

  3. Conversions, aftermarket and scratchbuilding are all permitted.

  4. Any markings are acceptable.

  5. Document your progress and do a write-up on your build - where did you have trouble, what improvements did you make, what markings did you choose and why? It would be GREAT if everyone would do a writeup and submit it to HyperScale as a Feature Article.
