Which are the most beautiful,touristic places in Macedonia, which are worth a visit?

The BEST place in all of Macedonia would have to be easily Ohrid, with its ancient Byzantine Churches, tourist attractions and the many beautiful women on the shores of lake Ohrid

UNESCO has recognized as a world architectural heritage and is the tourist attraction for macedonia.

Bitola is another city you should go to, with its beautiful mountains and ancient city.

Skopje would also be an interesting choice as well, its really 2 cities in 1, one half of the city is new and modern. whilst the other half is like a ottoman city preserved in time.

And finally the last choice would either be Struga or Krushevo.


Those are the more popular ones, but each city/town of macedonia has something unique to offer.

Thessaloniki and its Byzantine Churches and monuments and museums. It is the most Byzantine city on Earth, after the destruction of Byzantine monuments in Constantinoupolis.

Edessa with its waterfalls. Aigai with its museum. Naoussa with its nice places for eat and dance amd folklores.

Kavala with Thassos island and its coasts.
Kozani with its museum and Aiani: At the museum of Aiani an inscritpion of -6c in plain Greek: ΑΡΠΑΛΟΣ ΕΡΙΑ Ask a Greek for translation. And a name: ΙΠΠΟΜΑΧΑΣ A Dorian name.

Kastoria with its museums and old houses and lake. Florina with Prespa lakes.
Dion, the holy city of Macedonians. There is the statue of the god that Macedonians invented upper of all gods as to unify all populations: Hypsistos. ask a greek to tell you what does the name mean.

Yes, they are towns and not cities.

I must say... visit Prilep and "kuli marko" it is the castle on top of the mountain overviewing the city of Prilep.... the view is magical...

In Thessaloniki we have a saying 'Salonika city kai sas gamame to spiti'. In the end everyone thinks their home is the best!

but take a stroll along the waterfront cafes and bars and you'll have no doubt about were the most beautifull girls in Macedonia come from!

My post and question was about the beauties of REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA,so i guess the Greek guys on this forum got confused about something )

As Czech Airlines starts 3 times per week direct flights to Rep. of Macedonia's capital Skopje i might stop by for few days on my way to Turkey this summer.

Only two months to go before I`m back at the birthplace of Alexander the Great, a unique Macedonian who done Greece proud. Why not visit Vergina, another beautiful part of Macedonia.
Don`t worry about the the made in China "Macedonia" that is referd as FYROM, just a cheap imitation.

I don't understand, how can Skopje be the capital of Macedonia..... Skopje is not in Macedonia.

niko, the most beautiful town is ohrid without any question...
ohrid and krusevo have kept the old macedonian architecture, while in the other towns it's mostly lost.
for example, in my town there are only 15-20 houses left in the old style...the comunists are to blaim for this loss of heritage...
i don't like skopje...but it really depends what you want from your holiday.
ohrid got it all, beautiful architecture, a good nightlife, a beautiful lake,(the best sand beaches on ohrid lake are in struga, but these towns are only 20km away, so you can stay in ohrid and go to the beach in struga).
if you want the coolness of the mountain, the best place to go is pelister, near bitola, and you can visit the beautiful town of bitola with it's great nightlife...
in the east there is not much to see...a mountain area known as malesevijata is really beautiful...but eastern macedonia is not really developed for tourism and there are many unexplored places...great mountain forests, hidden waterfalls(the biggest one is near dojran, where there is also a lake resort).
i suggest to visit all the places i've mentioned...macedonia is not very big and all these places are just a few hours drive one from another...

in conclusion, macedonia is a great place to visit unless you are an extravagant man...after all, it's a poor country

I think its perfect , at least the place is still not commercialized, as some other coutries in Europe, and thats why its nice,to see the natural beauty in real way untouched,im not into seeing commercialized place in a way " i show you what u want to see, and you leave me your money " ( I will avoid to reffer about Greece thistime, cause they know themselves their tourism,and how they threat tourists,and they depend on them)

The mountains of Korab, near the Albanian border, west of Gostivar.

Do not forget the Galichica mountain, you can climb on top of it and see the two lakes, Ohrid and Prespa. Divine sight.
