Actually it was the total opposite if you consider the historic facts, and not the nationalist propaganda point of view.

Greek movements occurred throughout the territory but certain sections archived independence at different times. There are no so called "new territories" when all parts of Greece are historical Greek property.

Mehmet Emin aga was never a Mufti nor was elected. He had a small group of friends to endorse him and tried to steal government funds that go to religious institutions by forging signatures on documents. That is not an election nor is it legal. It was also the Mufti of Xanthi who discovered this and brought charges. He only paid a fine for impersonation and only served 6 months in prison for financial scandals. Of course Turkish nationalists like you will try to capitalize on this and claim a different story for propaganda purposes. Thrace has 3 Muftis who not only run their religious communities but also run religious courts that can settle local disputes-- no other European countries have this.

In Thrace, Orthodox and Muslim populations live side by side in peace and without incidences. Which is why the only anti-Greek sentiment comes from Turkish nationalist outside of Greece who have nothing to do with Thrace.

In Turkey the Greek minority has almost all left for Greece because of the government oppression and inspired progoms. In Greece the Thrace Muslim population has grown and even many of them who immigrated to Germany in the 1960's are today returning to Greece. Greece goes beyond the basic human rights which is why Greece has no confrontation with its minorities, meanwhile Turkey has been at war with them for over 30 years.

They left for Greece after. Muslims of Thrace have seen their population grow and community prosper because Greece does not have pogroms and they live side by side with Orthodox people peacefully. Most of their Mosques and properties were built upon land donated by Churches and state money. They are loyal to Greece and get more than any other minority group in Europe.

This is quite different from what we see in Turkey who has been at war with its minorities for over 30 years and pogroms, even people who have changed their religion in Turkey are reported to be getting attacked and killed by people.
