I like both the suggestion that it was an "unfinished" bit, either because it was unquestioned by the media, or because he intended to do something with it at a later date.
And I agree that it could be an "Elvis" tribute, too - And I laugh ~every time~ at that "1927" bit, even though I know it's coming!
