Time to merge forums?by Pete (no login)
I'd like to entertain the idea that we try merging the main discussion forum here with QB64.net. This is just an idea, and I don't intend on doing a single thing to make it so, unless the majority of our members are on board with it.
When formulating you opinions, consider the pluses and minuses. Mine are as follows:
Plus: I see is more community involvement, because there is newer stuff to discuss.
Plus: Being able to post code without all this crap that has been taking place with N54, which I'm all about certain they cannot improve upon. And yes, I have explained it and requested changes, nearly two weeks ago.
Plus: Improved support for QB64 by way of more QB gurus taking part in discussion with new QB64 users.
Minus: Learning some new statements to be able to answer questions. (Although some might consider this a welcome challenge.)
Notice I did not add the threaded format. Frankly, I like it, but I have several favorite non-programmer forums I attend regularly, and I like them just as well. It's just a little slower keeping up with the activity, because it isn't laid out all in front of you, but when more and more people are posting, it actually is a better method in terns of organizing the forum topics and the other board features, latest posts, etc., really help.
Anyway, I want to see what members here think. We would route discussion to QB64.net and keep the archives and QB-related sub-forums here. In other words, not a great deal of work or difficulty to achieve. Community discussion for non-qb topics would best be posted at QB64.net.
Other details could and would be worked out later in subsequent discussion, like should QB64 include a QB64 / QB discussion, so newcomers get they can ask QB questions there, etc.
BTW - I haven't brought this up to anyone yet, including Galleon. He is a mod here so he is getting this idea at the same time as every member. Of course, it needs to be OKed with him, but while we wait for that, I would still like just the idea to be discussed for now.
I would just like it better if everyone here was more involved with the part of our language that is growing, rather than waiting around trying to round up a few stragglers that didn't get the memo that QB is no longer a supported BASIC language.
And don't believe what former President George Bush would say: "You can't trick an old dog... by trying to teach him something new."
