I think this should work for any Windows OS. [edited]

I recall that OS does not return anything in 98. To get the version, get the prompt instead.

OS$ = ENVIRON$("OS")
IF LEN(OS$) THEN
CMD$ = "CMD /C "
ELSE : CMD$ = "COMMAND /C "
OS$ = ENVIRON$("PROMPT")
IF L% > 4 THEN OS$ = MID$(OS$, 2, 6) ELSE OS$ = "Win 3"
END IF

I ran my 98, which now gives a cursor on the screen if it runs a while like it is in Sleep mode, and the prompt gives [Win 98]$P$G. So now you can print the real OS, but I'm not sure about Windows 3 or ME.

BTW, 98 version of IE(6?) does not show the formatted box posting here. Probably for the better in my opinion unless you post a link.
