As you know, Ted, I never use the IDE.
Is there some rule which says that everyone must use the IDE for QBasic programs? Perhaps the IDE modified or misinterpreted my code in some way, causing the problem which you had.
The \nul appended to the given path is needed to recognize an empty directory and reporting it as existing.
This little program was compiled using Quickbasic 4.5 from the MSDOS commandline, and then tested by running the executable from the MSDOS commandline.
I'm glad you like the different approach.
