QB64 is not yet ready to be mainstreamed.by Solitaire (no login)It may almost be finished, but changes and additions are still being made, and it still has a bit to go before it's mature enough and ready for the first official release to the general public. It needs a strong backing (such as Microsoft had with QB) in order for it to be accepted as a serious programming language. It needs to be visible to the programming public. One way is by placing books with QB64 titles in bookstores. Publishers need to see the language and commission authors to write both consumer books and school textbooks for sale to the public. Schools will NOT adopt the language for courses unless there is a textbook available to accompany the course. A PR (public relations) person is needed to get the ball rolling. Is there such a person on the forum who is qualified for that job, and is willing to do it without pay? Meanwhile, if you just let things ride, eventually more and more posts will be directed to QB64. I believe the sub-forum was created as a venue to be used while the language was still under development, as I believe it still is. When it finally reaches maturity (give it another year or so for all the little glitches to be ironed out), it may then be ready for the main forum. As for myself, I'm still keeping my trusty old (and not-so-old) computers with the original QB. |
