Python offers more language features than BASIC (such as dictionaries, lists, exceptions and classes) but it doesn't have inbuilt graphics and sound statements (like PSET, LINE, SOUND, etc.). However, you can usually do that sort of thing if you use the right Python module or package.

I would guess that if you want to do graphics and user input, you will need to make use of PyQt. (Qt is an application and user interface framework.)
