## Re: Unsolvable with qb64?by lawgin (no login)I wasn't able to solve it but I did find a solution (called Pell's Equation) on the internet. I was surprised that even though the largest term 61*y^2 has 19 digits, qb64 long integers was able to handle it. The method of solution is much too deep for me. If you're interested, find it here: http://www.cs.uwaterloo.ca/journals/JIS/VOL13/Wildberger/wildberger2.pdf DIM x AS LONG DIM y AS LONG x = 1766319049 y = 226153980 PRINT x ^ 2 - 61 * y ^ 2 Posted on Mar 15, 2012, 4:42 PMRespond to this message Return to Index |
