I think you may be reading a little too much into things here. Don't equate a lack of progress with a lack of knowledge. Also, I have not seen any indication that the primary goal for QB64 has changed in any way. I am not so sure the constant FUD and criticism of his choice to spend his time developing an IDE is going to help your cause any. I for one would not be very appreciative of the title of your post. QB + some kind of DOS is the most complete solution there is ever going to be, and such a combination is not difficult to acquire in order to satisfy QB hobbyists' needs until QB64 is "finished".
According to the readme.txt, the project is far from complete. I wonder if he plans on figuring out a way to support existing 16-bit external libraries (QLBs, LIBs).. will be interesting to see what his plans are in that arena, if anything.
