Bilateral relations between Greece and Serbia and the situation in the wider region - focusing particularly on the Kosovo - dominated talks held by Defence Minister Evangelos Meimarakis in Belgrade on Thursday.

Meimarakis was formally received by his Serb counterpart Zoran Stankovic at Topcider military base in Belgrade.

Talks focused on bilateral defence cooperation while a new broader defense agreement was signed by the two sides.

Meimarakis stressed in a press conference that the new agreement gives special emphasis to military training and cooperation between training centers for peace operations in Belgrade, Serbia and Kilkis, Greece, while he assured his Serb counterpart that the Greek government supports Serbia’s Euro-Atlantic prospect.

On his part, Stankovic thanked the Greek minister for the support and revealed that Greece will back Serbia’s accession into the NATO Partnership for Peace initiative in the imminent NATO summit to take place in Riga, Latvia in late November.

Kosovo was the dominant issue at the meeting Meimarakis had with Serb Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, who reiterated that his country cannot accept a solution that will not respect its sovereign rights in the region.

The Greek minister pointed out the need for a mutually acceptable solution soon, stating that a likely extension of uncertainty would have a negative effect on stability in the wider region.

Meimarakis wrapped up his contacts in Belgrade by meeting Serb Patriarch Pavle. The head of the Serb Orthodox Church referred to the historical ties shared by the two peoples and thanked the Greeks for their support to the Serbs.

Before leaving the Serb capital, Meimarakis visited the newly built St. Sava Cathedral, the largest Orthodox Christian church in the Balkans.

Have I ever said that I hate serbs? I have never mentioned that. You are bastardizing the subject again. Because you have nothing to say. However, their alliance with grekos are not welcomed in my country.

If I were an anti-Orthodox, I should also hate Macedonians. But they are my friends and also an ancient nation just as we Turks.

This is good news. More local co-operation between Greece and Serbia is only a good thing. Two of the most historically important Balkan powers now have a military pact.

=======================================================================

There are 2 million albanians in serbia, 500,000 in macedonia and 700,000 - 2,000,000 in greece. However, albanians are only figting against slavs, but not greeks though they have lots of enmity in their history. How are you so sure about that albanian conflict in serbia is not supported by greece just as in macedonia??

Braveserb:

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. You share the same ideology with us. All the world are also against us since hundreds of years, but we have been showing them who they are dealing with. Greece is a western colony against Turkey since it was found. They also have an awful "to be european" complex that serbs don't have.

I won't talk so much about albanians; "Where's the money, there is the shiqippy."

I admire nations who fights against big imperial powers for their independence though their determent tricks and who are not wannabes and to be themselves.

Arkan:

If greeks are against NATO occupation in serbia, why don't they go out from NATO??

It was you serbs who supported greeks in every war except for greek civil war. Serbs and macedonians have fought against germans but they didn't. Now, they are trying to perch on your contestation. Yes, they supported you against bulgarians because macedonia had been occupied by bulgaria. That's to say they didn't support you because they love you so much. Cyrillic alphabet was invented by russians and adopted by serbs, that's all.

%90 of kosovo is muslim while %70 of albania is muslim. Those %5 non-muslim albanians in kosovo are catholic, not orthodox.

And I reccomend you not to insult a religion just because it was adopted by one of your enemies. We Turks have suffered so much by those greeks and armenians who are orthodox but we don't hate that religion. For example, Macedonia and Romania are allies of Turkey in Balkans.

It's also funny how you don't see that greeks are quite anti-slavic since hundreds of years.

I think greeks don't want a strong Albanian neighbour. Not because they love Serbs so much.

Most people in the world hate USA. Turkey is known as American ally but %89 of Turkey is Anti-American. American flags are burnt in South Korea and Japan who are known as American allies.

Turkey is member of NATO because we had to belong a side against communism. Besides, we would like to control the members of NATO. If you ever watch the NATO summit in Turkey, it was protested by thousands of people. We already don't view us as a NATO member.

Those so-called Anti-American greeks started to killing Turks in Cyprus and finally occupied the island in 1974. Because they were so sure about USA will protect them against Turkey. Then USA started to threat Turkey in case we would occupy the island. They have taken their 6th fleet to sea between Turkey and Cyprus. Then we started to threat USA and occupied the island, passing next to American fleet. We had occupied the entire island, however USA and UK prevented the Turkish army to control the whole island. They couldn't expel us compeletely from Cyprus but put embargo on Turkey.

Even most leopard tanks of greece were donated by netherlands. Thye get most their weapons from NATO against Turkey. Greece was puppet of UK when they occupied the İzmir. Because we have fücked the Britons and the greatest fleet of the century in Battle of Gallipoli and they didn't dare to fight with us again and used greeks. They offered the Asian Minor for Yugoslavia at first but it was rejected by Yugoslavian king. Then they used greeks. However, our 60,000 men who had nothing and fighting with 5 nations more, have beaten the 350,000 greek army who had the latest technology war equipments.

As I've said before, greeks are puppet of west since they were found. Even their king was german.

As for Albanians; If you(Serbia) had joined the EU and get billions of dollars for raised your GNP(just as greece), then Albanians would claim that they were related with Serbs etnically.

It changes a lot. Some sources say 65,000, many others say 600,000 and some sources say 5 - 6 million. Turkish citizenship policy don't recognize any other etnic name. So there is not an official census. Sometime linguistic researchments are made here in Turkey. But it's also not reliable because almost all albanians in Turkey don't speak albanian. They only know that they are of albanian origin, that's all. But that assimilation gives them attending power for everywhere.

About 700,000 immigrants have come from Kosovo. But only 100,000 - 120,000 of them were Turks. Rest of them were Albanians. So those "millions" figure is more realistic, counting Albanian immigrants have been coming since Balkan Wars and have high birth rate. Turkey has international refugee policy that gives citizenship right for an immigrant who is under war condition in his/her homeland. So we can't prevent that. For example, lots of Chechens have also come from Russia and many of them bring this citizenship subject into court and they won. Same situation for Kurds. About 1/3 of Kurds in Turkey don't belong here, came from Iraq, and we couldn't prevent this.

Battle of Gallipoli is not only important in our history, but even all the world history. I guess that was the best respond for the western capitalism apart from Battle of Dumlupınar.

Britain and France has taken hundred thousands of soldiers from 72 nations. They also had the greatest navy of the century. The flag carrier of western imperialism, greeks, has opened their country for Britain and France and become their bases for this operation.

6,000 barrels have fallen for each square meter. Even today barrels can be found at the battle area. Women have also fought in this war as volunteer. I had a picture of an old Turkish woman who carries tonns of weight barrel on her shoulders but I couldn't find it on internet. More than 500,000 people died. Turkey has lost all her quality labour force in this war and that damaged economy a lot. But we did not allowed them to pass the Çanakkale Strait. Then Britain has never dared to fight again with us face to face.

One of the meanings of our flag also comes from here. Just after the war, the sea had turned into a blood sea and view of cresent moon and pole star had fallen into sea. That sight also symbolizes our flag.

They are not so much problem here because they know if they gain our enmity, it will be their end in Balkans. Turkey doesn't have borders with Albania, already. So they don't do any seperatist actions.

Most of them have forgotten their languages and speak only Turkish. Most of them have been living here for years and new generations are assimilated and even don't think to go back where they come from. But they know who they are and always say "I'm proud to be an Albanian" or "Serbs are also your enemies"...and so on.

On the other hand, you live seperated while they are living in many places of Turkey. You're also in conflict with Albanians so it's difficult their integration in Serbia. There were also a few Orthodox-Albanians in Turkey. But they used to live like greeks and speak greek language instead of Albanian.

An another and important reason of Turkey's support for Albania is that Albania gave naval and air bases to Turkey against greece. Besides, there are many Albanian origin politicians in Turkish Assembly. But Turkey doesn't support any Albanian movement in Kosovo, indeed.

Btw, those Albanians in Kosovo; Do they want to join with Albania or request an independent Albanian state?

Supposed that we forced the albanians to leave Kosovo. Did they come back again under the same Ottoman rule?

even albania dosent want to absorb kosovo because it wont be able to handle more poverty and more mess without completly collapsing.

"Beautiful WINTER OVER KOSOVA(ANCIENT DARDANIA)"

Even if this dardania theory is true the key word in that sentence is "ANCIENT"
as in ANCIENT HISTORY. Get over it

Hahaha... What THE FUC*K SAVAGE ALBANIAN TRIBE FROM THE UNKNOWN, WILD AREAS IN ASIA, HAVE TO DO WITH ILLYRIANS?
You have always been cowards and western co*k-suckers. You had your chance 6 years ago to fight versus Serbian army but you have decided to flee all around the world. Now, thanks to USA mostly, Albanians are minority in Kosovo.
But, no my friend, Serbs never loose. I swear to god, we will have our revenge. You will be very small minority again, soon or later.
Let me remind you, some pics from Kosovo. Remember?

here you go serbs...

The Serb settlement in the Balkans appears to have taken place between 610 and 640.
The tribal designation Serboi first appears in the 1st century in the works of the Tacitus (c. 50 AD) and Pliny (69-75 AD), and also in the 2nd century in the Geography of Ptolemy (book 5, 9.21) to designate a tribe dwelling in Sarmatia, probably on the Lower Volga River.

The Slavs (including Serbs) came to the Balkans from a broad region in central and eastern Europe, which extended from the rivers Elbe in the west to the Dnieper in the east, and from a point which touched the Carpathian mountains in the south and the river Niemen in the north

from your history source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serbs

do you want more info serbs...no that would be it that explains everything...
