Every country that has attained the status of world power had embraced militarism. England has fought the most wars out of 4 countries that had attained world power status since the 1700's. Here are the countries in order of the most wars fought:

1. England
2. France
3, United States of America
4. Former Soviet Union

It just happens that the USA stands alone as a world power right now, and since they are in that status, has flexed its militaristic muscle.

Actually, if you get down to the nitty-gritty, it has been with America since the revolutionary war against England, for it was said then that every nation has a right to determine its own destiny.

All four of the nations listed above, because of their military might at the time, has gone overboard and caused atrocities.

So the book does not really tell us anything new.

When the colonists won their independence in America, and our founding fathers were busy trying to persuade the 13 States that a central government above the States authority was necessary, that they needed this central government to have the power of taxation. This taxation was necessary to underwrite operating costs of the new central government, enable the new country (America) to pay off its debts, restore its credit, and to raise large loans in wartime . It was common sense to even the forefathers of America that war was inevitable. Alexander Hamilton knew that war was an inescapable fact of life and "the fiery and destructive passions of war reign in the human breast with much more powerful sway than the mild and beneficent sentiments of peace"

War is part of human nature. Many can simply wish, but for those more powerful, can actually wage war when needed. And this is the way it has been since the dawn of man.
