What you're missing is that after donkeys years of supporting the Blades through thick and thin (mostly thin), we have become connoisseurs of the game. Not for us the channel balls for the little quick lad to run on to, nor the big boot to the target man which has been standard fayre for all Championship sides for the last 10 years. Unless its silky passing football, no-one wants to turn up or buy their ST, which in turn means that the club gets hit in the pocket, at a time that it can ill afford.
Blackies style was often effective but rarely elegant, the play-off semi finals being the only occasions I can bring to mind where we played genuinely someone off the park. After the frustrations of relegation, Robson, and then failure at Wembley there is a pretty low tolerance to failure, especially when we saw Burnley and Blackpool making the PL with attractive passing football. Add in the dismantling of the squad (twice) over the last couple of years and the sale of home grown talent to balance the books, and you reach a stage where there is nowhere to go. As much as I hoped he would pull it round, we've not had the kind of start that we would expect with dismal disjointed performances. The manager has to shoulder the blame and thats that. In the end, if you are not performing, you eventually run out of excuses, and its time to go.
Infact, I'm with you on this to an extent. Sacking the guy two games in smacks of knee-jerk reaction, not what we've come to expect from Kev McCabe. Why not do it after the last game of last season and give everyone time to move on. Still here we are. I dont think Blackwell is the clueless buffoon that some like to dress him up as. Neither is he the arrogant *******, although he can come across like that. What is clear from the little bits of ITK that I get from sources very close to the club is that all has not been well for sometime, and there are some key relationships that have not stood up well, i.e. with Ron Reid formerly at the Academy.
Here we are after another transfer window, without a recognised right back other than Kozzy (steady but not a source of cultured football), while we sent away some pretty impressive trialists such as Gilbert formerly of Arsenal and Gregory Vignal who can both play a bit. Of course I dont know what the behind the scenes is, whether they wanted too much money, or if they had injuries but fitting round pegs into square holes in key positions in the first games of the season did not bode well.
So, it looks like the 'Blackwell Out' group have got their way. It will be interesting to see who we get next and how long it takes the first 'new manager out' threads to appear. I think you will tell a lot about our intentions for the next five years. Will there be some money to spend? Now that is the big one...
