Response to Adams
Adams takes job. He looks at his options. He thinks right what do I need to do here. The reality is anything is better than nothing. When both those players signed, we were short on numbers, had just lost better loan players and we were struggling to find players to put on the bench. We have been decimated by injuries. The budget is undoubtedly thin.
Do we think Adams was the person who identified these players? Perhaps Doyle, as he has worked with him. Could it well be we employ a scouting team who watch games, make judgements on players who might be suitable and then put them in front of the manager. I'm sure it was Blackwell or Warnock who said for every 3 or 4 players you sign, you can expect 1 or 2 to be crap. For whatever reason it just doesn't work. It was felt we needed these players. That was possibly the best we could do. If we wanted them to come, they needed some incentive to. 2 or 3 year contracts right now are a big deal outside the premier league. If your a player and you are able to get one of those, you will snap the clubs hand off, particularly if the wage isn't quite what you are used to.
As for McCabe, it was stated a year ago there would be no further money or investment. That is it. We are waiting for players under contract to leave, or be sold for as much money as we can get for them. McCabe backed Warnock eventually. It took him 4 or 5 years to do it though.
We are no better off than we were about a decade ago. Unfortunately it is not that good as we are probably going to be relegated. We are going down with players who really don't give a stuff and most of whom wouldn't be playing here next year regardless of the division we are in.
We were never safe before Adams took the job. Plenty could see we were on the slide and things looked bleak. Anyone who says different is talking out of their behind or doesn't really know what they are talking about. It went wrong with us, sometime before Adams came.
He will be a good manager for us. I am certain of that.
