Response to Re: Expectations
The last time we won the FA Cup was in 1925. We haven't been in an FA Cup final since 1936. We have never reached the league cup final, the semi in 2003 being the nearest.
In the last 20 years, the cup competitions have been divided up between.
Manchester United (FA CUP:4 times LEAGUE CUP:4 times)
Chelsea (FA CUP:5 times LEAGUE CUP:3 times)
Arsenal (FA CUP:5 times LEAGUE CUP:1 time)
Liverpool (FA CUP:3 times LEAGUE CUP:1 time)
Portsmouth (FA CUP:1 time LEAGUE CUP:no)
Man City (FA CUP:1 time LEAGUE CUP:no)
Everton (FA CUP:1 time LEAGUE CUP:no)
Aston Villa (FA CUP: No LEAGUE CUP:3 times)
Leicester (FA CUP: No LEAGUE CUP:2 times)
Birmingham (FA CUP: No LEAGUE CUP:1 time)
Spurs (FA CUP: No LEAGUE CUP:2 times)
Blackburn (FA CUP: No LEAGUE CUP:1 time)
Middlesborough (FA CUP: No LEAGUE CUP:1 time)
The league cup has been marginally more 'open' than the FA Cup, but the fact is that the big boys divide the spoils (top 6 clubs take 30 of the last 40 cups), and there isn't much room for clubs like us from the semi-final onwards.
Without question, if we want to see United lift a trophy at Wembley in our lifetimes, then it is probably the JPT...
