Brentford - Some thoughts

I got myself another day out to see the blades so here goes; Nothing like a deadbeat report but a few thoughts on today.

Support: Absolutely magnificent. It felt like a little corner of Sheffield in west london and the noise generated by about 2,000 travelling fans was marvellous. It was nice to see Dave Bassett get a massive cheer as he walked past the griffin at about 2.30 - am guessing he might have been with his dad.

The team: I think this line up met with approval from many. I was a little disappointed with Hoskins. I think he struggled abit out wide. Bit surprised Porter got a start but maybe its about rotation and giving the player a game. Very relived to see Lowton and Maguire. The defence felt a little more stable. It really didn't get too many tests however. Hill did alright but was surprised to see such a short centre half. I do hope we will see Collins back in soon.

Brentford: A tidy team. Feels quite a relaxed kind of place. The pubs were friendly and I never sensed any sort of atmosphere. Of the team; Much of what they did seemed to come through Jon Douglas. He looked very slow but he seemed to make everything that they did. He played the ball around for them neatly.

Our performance: I think the return of Lowton and Maguire must have helped things for United today. The team deserved the win. They certainly had to dig in for it but we had a lot more than Brentford. Evans was decent and always a threat. He seemed to suffer from a lack of opportunities I thought. Players like Quinn and Williamson did their best to make things turn but I think we are still missing McDonald. Doyle looks very tidy and right now far more important to our team than Monty ( I never thought I'd say that).

The result: We needed a win. A win says last saturday was a bad day and the dismissals meant we were always going to be on the back foot tuesday. I have not seem much of us this year but I bet we have been more convincing than this. The performance at Bournmouth was much better.
