I believed we would beat or draw against Wigan, I believed we would beat Burnley, I also believed we would do enough to stay in the Championship! But, I don't believe we will get through the play-offs! I wish I did, but I just can't see it.
My real concerns are, despite our goal difference, which is obviously pretty good, we have shipped in too many goals this season and the only reason our GD looks anything like it does is because we have had a player that, after 2 years finally came into his own and demonstrated that he was a class above.
Unfortunately this player is now in HM Prison and I really can't see how, over 2 games, we are going to score more than we let in against Stevenage!
Evans not only scored a lot of goals but also drew defenders and made space for those around him, he finally showed his skill and why we paid the reputed 3 million for him.
We now face a situation where we have no BT (a fool for his actions, when the script was there for him to be a hero), Porter, who for me is a donkey, O'hallaran who is not up to it and a dedicated, but injured Cresswell, who, with the best will in the world is not going to be the match winner IMHO!
So I think we are going to have to cope with another year in league one, I really don't want to be negative but I really can't see it any other way. A number of decisions made have brought about our situation and these have been discussed to death..... Robson and too much money spent, selling our best players and then a managerial merrygoround.
All of that said, I believe DW is the man for the club, he has proven that he can get it right and I believe success will come in time.
We have been the better side in Sheffield for some years now, but at the moment I think we will be living in their shadow for a while, they have a good manager, who, all credit to him, got our porcine neighbours playing when it mattered. We had it in our hands and yet only 2 points from the last 9 have proven to be our downfall!
If I am wrong and we storm the play-offs I will be over the moon, I only wish I could believe we would! If we do then there is a long way to go to get this side to anything like a team that can achieve in the Championship.........
It is never easy being a Blade and ultimately that is why I love the club and whatever happens I will be at BDTBL next season, 100% behind the lads as I will a week on Monday!
