Well, we are banging away at this one, aren't we.
For me the manager is almost always responsible for the players he has brought in...or not, as the case may be.
I really welcomed Wilson to the club and still do, but I have to say that although the 'main team' in general had a reasonably good season, the back up was always on the weak side. I have maintained that for most of the season and still do.
Even had Evans not gone for sloppy seconds he was only an injury away from absence and then there would have been some concern as the scoring rate slowed dramatically...and rightly so.
Look at the Evans experience in that light.
