| No, not what you're thinking, but the Olympic Torch Relay traveling through our fair town.
For those of you who don't know, the procession is led by seemingly a couple of hundred policemen from all over the UK, some on motorbikes (high-fiving the crowd as they ride by, oh yeh!) and dicking about with their sirens, then the 'commercial partners' of Coke, Samsung and LloydsTSB (now I know where my extortionate bank charges go...) with their vehicles populated by shouting, whistle blowing young eye-candy (this bit was OK!).
Then after being engulfed by this wave of commercial promotion, and a discrete wait of ten minutes, we get eventually to the real event of the torch itself. Its coming, its here, its gone again. A once in a lifetime experience for sure, but the surviving impression is that it is a little lost in the juggernaut of commercialism forging its way around the nation whilst we all act our part as stooges. The Olympic ideals see a long way away.
Cynical? Moi..?
