'The best team' and 'Playing the right way' are empty phrases really. They describe an opinion or aspirational view, but in the context of the game who is really to say that the winning team isn't always the best team.
Take Barca vs Chelsea in the CL semi. Barca have better players, 70% of the ball, pass it beautifully but in the end they can't win because they can't score. Chelsea were organised, disciplined, defend heroically, nip a fine goal on the break to win the game. I said to my son at half-time that Barca wouldn't score because they were playing too high up the pitch and trying to get past 9 defenders in the opposition penalty area by playing clever little through balls is a waste of time. It was obvious. For all their talent, they showed that they lacked imagination and the tactics to defeat Chelsea other than by their 'perfect game' approach in which the opposition teams stand by and allow them to play their wonderful passing game. To me the best team won.
Personally I enjoy good defensive play as much as I enjoy good attacking. I also agree that England won't win the tournament. In the end I don't think we have enough to score against the Germans, if we get that far. (That's good defending for you!)...
