Although it has a 427SHOC,rather than a 351C (I think SHOC's trump even a Cleveland!) this car is truley a treasure, it went to $155K, but did not meet reserve.

The Dyno Don Maverick was THEE Ford Pro Stock to beat in about 1970-71. It was the only Ford that could compete with the Mopars and Chevys at that time. I would dare say that it was the most important Ford Pro Stock from the days preceding the 351c Pintos. The only other Ford Pro stock that could come close would be the blue Gapp and Roush Shotgun Express Boss 429 Maverick and I would rate that second to the Dyno Don Maverick. The first 351c powered Pro Stock to appear on the scene was Dick Loehr's Stampede Maverick from Kalamazoo, Michigan that, as I remember, was run in a gas Class with Fuel injection First and then as a Pro Stock. Loehr had hydralic Wheelie bars to lift the car up to do his burnouts (at that time there was no water box to heat the tires up) but NHRA soon banned that idea. The 351c Pintos appeared a year or two later.

I was talking to a friend about this car and we both remembered that there was an earlier version of this same car that didn't have much chassis work done to it. The earlier version had ,as I remember, Lakewood type slapper bars and a Lakewood 3 point bolt in style roll bar. It also was more orange in color, with some black stripes, as opposed to the redder paint with white stripes, on this car.. I think this car had the chassis work done by M&S welding in Azusa California, If I remember right. I am pretty sure that M&S welding also did the first 351c Pinto that Dyno Don ran.

I found a couple of pictures, I took of the car in 1971, and as you can see from the pictures some things have been changed. They now have a big block radiator where the original had a small block radiator. [IMG][linked image][/IMG] [IMG][linked image][/IMG]
