About 7 years ago, before my passion for vintage Rolex had taken effect, I had seen a co-worker wearing what I had thought to be a Rolex. I had very little knowledge of the vintage world.
What I did know is that my father wore a silver/gold datejust, and my uncle had a neat looking one with a blue and red bezel that turned. LOL.
I asked to look at his Rolex watch, and he hands me what I think is a beat up old watch, LOL. A dial that has turned a brownish colour, submariner in red, some scratches and marks on the crystal, and a faded bezel the has turned light grey.
After handing it back to him, he asks me if I want to buy it, as he needed some extra cash for a car he was looking at. I can remember the exact line I said back to him, " Sorry, but I would rather save my money and put it towards a new shiny one."

If I only had the the knowledge that this great forum has provided me, back then.

C'est la vie

Jeff
