this has become my favorite watch - here is the story behind it
when i started my insurance business in 1994, it took off pretty quickly. As in all businesses, i ran into people who owed me money and sometimes couldn't pay. I had a client who owed me about 4,000 usd and desperately needed to keep his policy in force because he was refinancing his property and the bank would kill the deal otherwise. This older gentleman came to my office and pleaded with me to let him slide on payment for another two weeks but i explained to him that i would be stuck for the money if he didnt pay and it was nothing personal but i just couldn't do that. Soooo he offered me what was on his wrist a Patent Pending DRSD - i took it for the 4k and he brought me all the papers and service records on the watch. At that point in my life i was 26 years old and didnt think much of vintage rolex - i was an idiot and wanted to have a new one. Well here is the part that kills me. I had another client who was a jeweler and I wanted to see if i could get cash for the watch. The guy took one look at it and offered me 8,000 - of course i tool the cash in hand and though i had made out like a bandit - well i am sure all of you who are reading this are thinking the same thing i am - what a damn idiot i was - about three years later a friend of mine turned me on to vintage rolex and i started collecting and also kicking myself at the same time - worst vintage rolex mistake i ever made. The person who bought it off me must have laughed all the way home and to the bank etc.
