Can someone help! I've just moved to Amsterdam and want to know where the best clubs and bars are. I've been living in Madrid which has a great goth scene and I miss it sniff sniff.....

Goth seems to be less popular in Amsterdam nowadays. There are a few things you might want to consider though for a night out:

Korsakoff, an alternative club (lijnbaansgracht). Open 7 days a week, music is broad (from metal to industrial with anything in between), weekends have theme night in the upstairs bar.

Soundgarden, an alternative bar just across from the Korsakoff (marnixstraat)

Winston Kingdom has some nice bands once in a while (warmoesstraat) and a regular party (Living in Oblivion)

Pacific in the Westerpark has some nice atmosphere with occasional garage music (also live)

If you like punk as well, there is the Vrankrijk (club) and The Minds (bar) in the Spuistraat and the OCCII (Amsterlveense weg) has bands on a regular basis)

If you like metal you could check out the Cave (Prinsengracht, close to leidscheplein)

If you like rockabilly and the occasional psychobilly, next to the Korsakoff is a bar called Maloe Melo, which has live performances most of the weekends

And then there are the scattered parties you will find posted up here or the before mentioned Kagan Kalendar.

This is all on the top of my head, I might have forgotten some,but this will give you a push at least. Remeber, there are night trains every hour to and from Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden, Den Haag. So you can travel quite easily as well.

yes the Gothic scene seems to have vanished in Amsterdam and with it almost all the parties, there are only a few parties left....

Bal du Masque is a very nice party with a special atmosphere (about 4 parties a year)
The League of Extraordinary DJ's is a small gothic party once every 2 weeks at the Mono (entrance free)
Strange is a new party but you'll have to wait till October for this one
you can also find some new gothic fetish & burlesque parties in the neighbourhood of Amsterdam.

Thank's for mentioning Mono and the League of Extraordinary Dj's Pim, seems like Ghoul has a very short memory...he was spinning there and showing his vintage fims not so long ago...btw...the next one is Sat the 23rd of August...it's small but fun! Better go back to Madrid! The Goth-scene is stone-dead here.
