Water is also a good solvent due to its polarity. The solvent properties of water are vital in biology, because many biochemical reactions take place only within aqueous solutions (e.g., reactions in the cytoplasm and blood). In addition, water is used to transport biological molecules.
When an ionic or polar compound enters water, it is surrounded by water molecules. The relatively small size of water molecules typically allows many water molecules to surround one molecule of solute. The partially negative dipoles of the water are attracted to positively charged components of the solute, and vice versa for the positive dipoles.
In general, ionic and polar substances such as acids, alcohols, and salts are easily soluble in water, and nonpolar substances such as fats and oils are not. Nonpolar molecules stay together in water because it is energetically more favorable for the water molecules to hydrogen bond to each other than to engage in van der Waals interactions with nonpolar molecules.
An example of an ionic solute is table salt; the sodium chloride, NaCl, separates into Na+ cations and Cl- anions, each being surrounded by water molecules. The ions are then easily transported away from their crystalline lattice into solution. An example of a nonionic solute is table sugar. The water dipoles hydrogen bond to the dipolar regions of the sugar molecule and allow it to be carried away into solution.
Don Continues:
The point being there can be so called pollutants in water that will never settle out, nor be screened or filtered out, and to humans and other wild life, are deadly poisons.
But that is not the point Nucc is making; certainly the bible is not a chemistry class, nor a science book.
I assume the bible is speaking figuratively, putting human nature to inatament objects (the use of water) to make a point of “rejecting” that what is wrong, being cleaned of past deeds deeds, and holding fast for what is right by having a completely different attitude.
Now that is not bad Vince, and certainly I can find no complaint—Provided what is right and wrong are “proved” for the betterment of humans and the society that we create.
Now if a Christian, as Nucc or others, what to use water as an example of being “cleaned” and renewed in the mind to get this point across then I say “good for them” as no harm is done.
My argument may be, not discounting Christian doctrine of being born again, is this “complete mind changing” can and does happen without the use of a deity. People have the ability to adopt a new “frame of reference”, and usually this is because of some natural event or trauma.
The examples are many of this “massive changes of heart”, from being incarcerated in jail or prison, or facing life and death situations, or the loss of a loved one, or beloved child. Or just hating the accumulative results of living a filthy low life, and the person greatly desiring something better.
The Christian way is NOT bad Vince, it hurts NO ONE by creed or doctrine, and at least it gives a fairly complete explanation of how a person is a low life drugger filled with sin and crimes one day—and the next day drops all that garbage and walks in righteous for the rest of his/her existence--- with the hope of eternal life.
A person says they are “born again unto Christ”, their sins washed away in the most clean water (baptism), and that is why they stopped using drugs, booze and stealing cars----never to return to the old creature of damnation and self destruction. Do I really care if his God is real or not? NO WAY. I am happy for the person that finally “woke up” and wants to make his/her life meaningful for good thing even the many proven goods.
So I really do not see where the argument is, as the better end results is what I seek, not necessarily the method.
Beside an all powerful God (assuming there is such a thing) can touch whoever he pleases, is not name sensitive, and even can use a person’s conscience to set straight a crooked path. And accordingly God is not stuck on using English, as the same God should be able to speak Spanish, and in all honesty no bible would be needed, as the Spirit of God speaks to the heart of a person, as to what happened to Paul in Acts, as no bible was written at the time Paul as we have it to day.
The bible is poetry Vince, using earthly examples to say something of benefit to those that would take the time to figure it out.
What some Christians fail to say about being Born Again is that is only the foundation, but now you have to build the house--- if you get my drift.
Because I have understanding does this mean I am going to quit my great over whelming love of money? Not a chance in hell. But at least I’m not going to be a stumbling block to those that “truly” follow the bible and its teachings, and it makes no difference if I agree with Christians or not. I want to see the end results of Christian “good works” no matter how they come about it.
