The Dallas White Rock Marathon is no more.
Moving forward, the area's premier December marathon will be called the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon. The marathon board voted to drop the "White Rock" reference in their continuing effort to put Dallas on par with other big city marathons.
The board will formally announce its rebranding as the city's oldest and largest annual marathon at a noon press conference today at the Flag Room outside the Dallas City Council chambers. They also will unveil a new logo.
The Dec. 9 marathon, half marathon and relay race will start and finish in Downtown Dallas. The full and half marathon courses will run over the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
"One of the reasons is to get ourselves on the same plane as other races," said board chairman Kevin Snyder. "There's also a closer association with the City of Dallas, and it stakes our territory, our brand, as the marathon in Dallas."
