The MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon board voted unanimously Tuesday to move the 2012 race start/finish to downtown Dallas near the new Omni Hotel. The board also voted to push the race date back one week to Dec. 9.
Moving the marathon course downtown allows us to partner with the City of Dallas to promote the citys newest landmarks, said Kevin Snyder, chairman of the DWRM board of directors. Downtown provides a platform for our races continual growth in participation and the support of our mission to improve the health and fitness of the DFW community.
This marks the marathons fourth major venue change since it started and finished at White Rock Lake from 1971-1982. Dallas City Hall served as the start/finish venue from 1983-2000. The race relocated to the American Airlines Center for nine years. The past two years, the Rock began and ended at Fair Park.
