They won't follow my brilliant plays. They are too poorly skilled to pick up what I'm teaching them. Why am I wasting my time? These kids are so far beneath my level of coaching that I'm embarrassed. |

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I get it now. So when a professional coach stands up in front of the camera's and says "It all falls on my shoulders, I need to do a better job." He is a tool and has no business being a coach. Perhaps you could provide some of your references and I will send them out out all of the pro sports organzations! |

This would all make sense IF the coach did not pick the team. BUT HE DID |

Gladly; novice Miss Chiefs blue we were: 1 20 1 4 GF 101 GA, Minor midget green MHL: 2 15 3 12 GF 99 GA. I have more, but those were my stellar years. |

OK Seriously now. Do the coaches believe the way to the top is to blame the team? Are they not responsible to motivate and train? |

OK...I will accept that. So your entire premise is that there is not enough talent and coaching has absolutley nothing to do with a teams performance? |

This is valid. I see some people on here say how stupid the parents are because they did not do the proper researchon the coach. Now, here is someone else saying that i would not matter how the coach has done it is all about the ability of the players. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: You pick the team, run the practice and run the bench but losing is the players fault? Why? | November 2 2011, 10:07 AM |
Not having the horses is a big part of it.
I would say that it all depends on your objective, as a coach, player or parent.
If you need wins today it will be a long season.
If a coach can sell the group on the concept of lets do it come play off time than great.
Longer term vision, but a coach needs to have a fairly bullet proof plan.
A strong coach can get it done.
REALITY
12 teams in the west have playoff dreams, you need to fight tooth and nail just to get that 12th spot and then of course play the #1 next round.
The GTHL needs to change the format or address the team # issue.
BUT as we all know the G has addressed it already .... THE Clancy and Founders |

Sometimes the players availble for the coach to choose from SUCK. Coach has to work with what he has.
Are you too stupid to understand that not all kids have equal abilities. |

My sons coach is making such bad decisions behind the bench, the parents are beginning to think he was trying to lose on purpose! This is the truth! |

Buddy what do you expect from an NHL coach in front of the cameras? to blame the players. Once again the players are on the ice not the coach. |

EC should have whole team in the crease all game. It will keep the GAA way down. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: You pick the team, run the practice and run the bench but losing is the players fault? Why? | November 2 2011, 12:25 PM |
the coach can select the team, prepare practice plans, manage the bench and go into each game with an overall plan, but the player must execute that game plan as the coaches are not on the ice what are you missing? the players play the game not the coaches or parents! |

In this situation most of the time the real issues is with the parents
interfering. They are telling their kids to do things that contradicts
what they are taught in practice. Is see that every day with my son's
team. When they get to the game you see all sort of selfish behavior
to please the parents in the stands...when we play as a team we do well
and win, when they start hogging the puck, not passing, trying to do
everything by themselves we end up losing... just watch your own practices
and watch what they do in the games... |

Good players need good players to play with!!! If your son is on the ice with a good player and nothing is being done maybe you should look in the mirror and say ''my son is not at that level yet''!!! |

i agree with part of this.
i don't think the kids become selfish to please the parents, if so at 14 you'd have a pretty insecure kid.
i believe it's that whole ingrained parenting approach of " what about me " !
very few kids are encouraged to be team players, if it's happening now at 14 than it's a little late
at AAA the consequences are very severe and they were made clear at least 5 years ago
it's actually quite sad caz it really takes away from the game |

just like FJ OF THE WAXERS 97 aaa last year, blamed everyone but himself for the disaster season. the kids did exactly what he wanted them to do, and when it did not work its the kids fault. these coaches are something else i tell you. good riddance FJ I hope you stay out of minor hockey from now on |

If the players get on the ice and do not perform as the coach has "trained" them, is this not a coaching failure? My understanding is that a good coach will gain the respect of the players and therefore the players will perform. I can understand maybe one or two rogue players but if it is an entire team???? Anyone can read a book, watch some video and understand the play. It takes a good coach to get the most out of his players and most of the time it is indpendant of hockey mechanics. So, if the players as a group do not compete, implement systems or put forth their maximum effort, is it not the fault of the coach/teacher/motivator? |

"You pick the team, run the practice and run the bench but losing is the players fault? Why?"
Because moron parents coach the kids too much and they all go out there playing their own game instead of playing together as a team. Any other questions? |

Not true, I have watched 2 fantastic coaches take a bunch of under skilled kids and bring them from last place to first place in one season. Coaching is the core of the team. If the coaches do not teach strategy and how to play against different teams and only teach one style of play and expect that to work against every team it will never work |

Good answer. Everyone here wants to suck and blow. It would appear that most here believe the coach has little to no impact on the overall performance of the team and it is due to crappy players. Therefore, they would be happy if their sons coach was a complete moron because it has no effect on the team AT ALL and no impact on their son. Yeah Right. You are full of shit |

the fact of the matter is the players play the game, blame the coach all you want but at the end of the day the players must be held accountable for there play! |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: You pick the team, run the practice and run the bench but losing is the players fault? Why? | January 18 2012, 3:07 PM |
if a coach can't see the strengths and weaknesses of each player and build on that, than yes its the coaches fault. IE some players are better at PK than PP. so if you put out the incorrect player during either of those situations, you must blame the coach. |

3:07 What about those players who don't go hard on every shift is that the coaches fault? What about those players who don't show up for every practice, is that the coaches fault? What about those players who are disuptive in the dressing room when an adult is talking, is that the coaches fault? What about those players who are selfish on the ice and don't play a team game or listen to instruction, is that the coaches fault? What about those players that consistently take bad penalties, is that the coaches fault?
Shall I continue? I have more. |

your suggestion that the coach picked the wrong kids assumes that there were better kids to choose from. that usually isn't the case especially in G west which has too many teams |
