After the 96 OHL draftNovember 17 2011 at 2:53 PM | Anonymous (no login) |
| I was wondering what the next logical step MIGHT be for my son?
This is his draft year, and while I beleive he will be drafted, I expect he will go late, maybe 8th round or later.
My question is, what is the best spot for my kid to play next season. He is a late bloomer and will still grow more than his peer group and get stronger, so he has (i am told) lots of upside. Where should he play? Midget AAA, Jr C Jr B or Tier II Jr A if he makes it?
Rational thoughts only

Go where he will play the most for a good coach. That late a draftee, most likely Midget AAA. |

Is Midget AAA a good spot for a player that is still developing and has lots of upside? |

Well, there are only 2 spots for kids 16 to play on a Junior team and the Midget teams have both 16 and 17 year olds. So, who do you think the midget teams have more of on their teams? 16 or 17 year olds. Your kid will be lucky to get on a midget AAA team let alone a junior team next year. |

If he gets drafted, he'll get on a midget team. |

take him to a prep school in the northern us. they cover most the ride and all are affiliated with division 1 schools.
Friend of ours went un drafted last year and is playing down there on a 3/4 ride at a great school resulting in a great education |

Find a "Family Adviser" to learn all your options. |

And to give your money to!
It makes me laugh to here everyone talk about getting scholarships. It is tuff competition for scholarships to any prep school. Not only do you have to be a good hockey player but you also have to have very good grades from a reputable school. If your kid has both going for him, then he has a better "chance". No guarantees! Don't forget, there are a lot of US kids trying to get these scholarships also. |

Not always, they often send them to Midget AAA teams for more playing time. |

Agreed. VM from last years MM Toronto Marlies is playing Oakville Midget, for example. He was drafted this past spring. |
