Does he do his best to make a positive impact on your kid, in whatever way is within his ability/knowledge? If yes, then he deserves something for all of the volunteer hours he puts in. If he doesn't succeed in every area, don't hold it against him - I don't know a coach who can keep any one family happy in every way. HOWEVER... if you feel that he has taken deliberate steps involving your kid that have not been fair or straight up, and have had a detrimental impact on your kid as an individual, then I would say no, as it is still "the thought that counts" and if you can't give a gift in some sort of good spirit, don't do it. Wow - December sure is creeping up fast!

Had a coach's wife who was the manager take money out of the budget to buy her husband a bottle at christmas and year end gifts as well. Not many happy people on that team and a reason it blew apart.

I think some coaches deserve a freaking medal for putting up with the likes of some parents on this forum. Either that or a straight jacket.

Have been a coach for teams and just a parent too....so I know both sides of the coin. There are just as many good coaches out there as bad ones. The issue is that the association gives most coaches free reign to do whatever the hell they want. And regardless what a coach does, most associations will side with their coach when there is an issue. They don't want to piss off their coach because there are only so many out there to coach their teams.

As for coach deserving an xmas gift.........sorry, don't see it happening.

Yes he does, in fact all of our coaching staff does. It's a great time to give a small gift, shake their hands and thank them for the countless hours, whether you like their style or not.
