So if its not about scoring goals, what life lessons has your child learned from playing hockey?

Mine....

To be tolerant of others!

....who are far less intelligent than him! happy.gif

If you are not in the top 3 (skill level)and if your dad does not have money to pay the coach, you don't stand a chance! MONEY TALKS!

That spots don't always go to those that deserve them; that one player can be considered great by one coach and crap by another; that some parents will do anything to get their kids ahead of others, regardless of their lack of skill, talent or work ethic.

Politics, it is everywhere. Coaches who are unbiased are few and far between.

So in other words, he has learned that sometimes it is who you know and sometimes others who are less deserving may get something you also wanted and sometimes you just need to ply your trade elsewhere for someone who will appreciate your skills and talents.

Perseverance, perseverance, perseverance!

Not in any particular order, here is a list of 10:

1. Life isn't fair
2. Hard work pays off, but you need to have your own passion for the activity to want to work hard at it
3. Direct communications, good or bad, are easiest in the end
4. How to deal with adults
5. How to work as part of a team - and that not everyone puts the team first
6. It is easier to win than to lose, but losing teaches you more about yourself and others
7. The importance of fitness
8. Discipline isn't easy
9. Dirty and cowardly isn't manly
10. School always comes first (well, this is an indirect lesson that opportunity gives parents the chance to link to hockey time)

1. How to work hard to achieve success.
2. Sometimes when you work hard, you still don't succeed.
3. If you tried your best, that is worth being proud of.
4. It's still better to win than lose.
5. Sometimes the calls and bounces go your way, sometimes they don't, but you can't control either so don't worry about them.
6. Road trips are fun.
7. How to be part of something bigger than yourself.
8. How to communicate with adults, people in authority and other kids.
9. Girls and guys who don't play hockey well are impressed with guys who do (not sure that's a good one).
10. Losing isn't the end of the world; there are still snacks for everyone.

My kid has learned to be a dick. When he was young and not exposed to others he was just fine. Now a full fledged dick.

10:16 Sometimes it isn't what the kid learns, but what the parent learns: you clearly have learned that he is a chip off the ol' block!

I coach and usually give the kids with ugly moms more ice time, so I can have a meeting with the kids with the hot moms to discuss "things". Nice to see the all "hot and bothered" by it all. lol

Great news for you 11:43 - you need not "aspire" any longer, as you have already achieved your goal in spades. My guess is that it happened a long time ago, and came very naturally to you. Congratulations!

7:40.... THANKS COACH! I'm always open to suggestions, and today I just learned a great lesson. I'll start using that idea in the New Year. Forget our perfect 22-0 season. It's all about "ME" the coach now. Play the bad ones, score with the good ones!!! Merry Christmas Everyone. The "coach" just brought me the best present of all. HOT MOMS!!!!

If you're looking for yummy mommies, you may want to take your kid out of hockey and put him in figure skating - much higher volume =)
