Green has 3 pts you need 6 pts to win the series ... So unless you can get 3 pts in one game it will take at least two games to reach 6 pts.
3 pts current + 2 pts + 2pts = 7 pts and series win
OR
3 pts current + 2 pts + 1pt = 6 pts and series win

Congrats Green - well played!
Predictions:
Gold over Green 3 games - Gold will not hold back with the offence, their lateral offensive zone will be very tough for the Green to defend predicting high point spreads 4-1's
HP vs. Windsor 5 games - going to be tough, both similar, Windsor just may sneak through - difficult to predict - Windsor 2-1
s
Sun County vs. Lambton 5 games - this is going to be fun!!! Suspect high-scoring one sided games back and forth - Lambton 4-2's
Kit vs Waterloo 5 games - consistent Waterloo but again, very tough 3-1's
Good luck to all the teams and competitors

Doesn't matter who gold plays, they will easily defeat everyone. Too bad for green that they didn't get a different draw as they finally appear to be playing to their potential. Expectations were that they would be a top team on the east side not the bottom team.
I am sure the entire Alliance will join me in wishing Green luck against the Gold team.

Green coaches know hockey very and wouldnt be surprised to see them run a trap system which is probably what they used during some games against Cambridge. Not sure if they can take down Gold in any game, but as the underdog theyll have no pressure and i'm sure most of the local spectators will be cheering green on .... True, the static trap that they played all season has helped them better understand how to make it more difficult for their opponents in the neutral zone. Combined with a strong forecheck they look much better.maybe they have just been playing possum all year.

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk
January 23 2012, 2:17 PM
Green probably couldn't have taken gold in a 6pt series last year with the players on that team.
Last years gold top line was still better Green's top line. After that it was pretty close. Hard work and stellar goaltending might get you 2 points or even 3 but not 6.
Now this year Green's top guys can compete with Gold's 3rd line no problem but the top two "LjK" gold lines are much better with the imports. If you manage to neutralize one line, the other line can still destroy you. They are very good.
3 and out but green will compete.
Hopefully this hybrid team will rep the Alliance well at the OHL cup. Its good PR for the Alliancee but don't blow smoke that this team is from London.

Everyone knows that the G has always been out of the reach of alliance play because of their import rules. It does not make it ok to bend to them. We are supposed to be doing our own thing and developing local boys at their own club level..not trying to even compete with those cheaters. At least before when we lost to G there was some solace in the fact we didn't cheat. Not so much anym ore

The thing I don't understand is the third-liner kids and parents willingness to bend over
at the bottom of the pyramid so two or three kids from another center can climb on top
of LJK like tarzan and head to the draft with the girl under their arm. Me no Jane.
Was the real point here missed or how does this work?
I'd be pissed to watch my kid play gold for years and then make way for some chiefs to
muscle in and steal the girl - grow a pair- don't think that whole squad is getting drafted soon

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk

Its the whole system that needs to grow a pair.
If an organization wants to compete and can't develop its own talent through good coaching, or the good talent is poached to ther centres (HPL, SC, for example) this is how you "win". Its wrong but thats how the top 3 teams win in the G.
As a 3rd liner what do you do? Ask for release to play for another centre or practice with those players and hope you get better. If your kid wants to advance in hockey (hence the AAA) he needs to deal with the politics as it only gets worse.

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk
January 23 2012, 3:59 PM
Well put. Smartest thing I've read on here in a looong time. If you think you can run from the politics at this level, but have aspirations of your kid going on to play NCAA or in the OHL, your NOT doing your kid any favours by floating him around like a Gypsy. Hockey is full of politics and it only gets more consuming as you advance through the levels. AAA MM is only the beginning, but if your that parent that thinks that by playing for the TM or LG is going to make your kid a better person or athlete, your probably a little bit distorted. Fortunate (maybe) that you can do it financially, but in reality the numbers don't lie (sorry if you think your kid is the next "one"), and your probably better off allowing your kid to learn the life lessons that can be taught through sport (ie. battling a through a tough year of hockey). Does it not make more sense rather than teaching him that when the going gets tough, move on to the next team? Chances are if your one of these gypsies you probably won't be much happier anyways. Just my 2 cents. Cheers

My question is, can RS lead his team of misfits from tampering,,, er, i mean recruiting... er, i mean from tryouts through to the Championship of the Alliance and then onto a decent showing at the OHL Cup? In years past the Knights Gold team has been outcoached when they should have won. Heaven help this team if they start to get behind in a game or series.

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk
January 24 2012, 8:52 AM
Green coaches....please, please, please do not play the infamous trap and pray for a 2-1 victory or "good showing." You may think it is your only hope for a quality series. Instead, game one, play extremely physical (first two periods), do not worry about the score, but from the puck drop direct your players to play a highly physical NOT DIRTY but physical game. Throw away game one, tell the team that is the plan (they can accept it for one game) initiate the contact (Gold is strong but not a physical team) and keep it going for as long as your team can. Despite the first two periods, work at winning the third period even a 5-1 is okay if its 1-1 for the third, it sets the psychological table for game 2.
Game two, begin the same but have a designated offensive line, NOT THE ONE MAN IN GARBAGE the other lines can maintain the physicality as it is exhausting but effective in a playoff series. If you play 1 man in, you will have zero offence and Gold will be picking up the puck and breaking out and using a 5-4! Game two is vital; the Gold team will beat your team heavily game one (especially if your team attempts the "ol trap" primarily becasue they are used to teams playing it) similarly they typicaly score their goals in the first and then lose team focus (coaching issue re: bench discipline).
The Green coaches are very inexperienced coming from asst B hockey the year prior and this season has been their introduction to AAA hockey. Last place through the season is in the past; beating Cambridge is still a morale victory and kudos to the team. If you forget to attack, you will lose and the trap will fail and then the players will lose confidence in your game plan, as will the coaching staff "they aren't doing it like we told them," then the penalties will follow and "injuries" (groin for goalies shoulder/concussions for players) as the kids are embarrassed and frustrated at the high scores the "I can't play due to...." or suspension/penalty syndrome - "wasn't my fault, I wasn't on the ice." Clear indicators a team has collapsed during a series. They typically heal for the following showing.
Green goalies, you must be consistent, you cannot allow 5 goals one game and then play well and then get blown out. It starts with you, good luck and don't get down. First game will be the worst, weather the storm. Defence, do not collapse or it will be a goal; hold your line, force the play, its okay to make a mistake vs backing into your goalie and getting "the umbrella" repeatedly. Forwards, shoot with intensity, or don't waste the puck. A shot form outside the circles at AAA is a waste unless screened or a "V" rebound is the plan, address the net, don't shoot and watch.
Gold goalies, you have to stay focused despite the lapses, nothing looks worse than appearing unprepared and all of a sudden a pinch becomes a 2-1 and a goal - and with 9 shots it causes you to look sloppy. Your test will come in the later series but you have to get there first. Lots of mental prep, before, during the game. Be vocal, it keeps you involved.
Gold coach, keep them disciplined, respect the Green team, they are also LJK, blowouts are not necessary, work on team play and work your third line - very tough to do for a coach trying to impress but you don't want to risk your first liners in your first series with a last place team (no disrespect Green). Your team hasn't played in the playoffs in awhile, they will be a little sporadic, keep them focused and be careful with the individual play, the Green has nothing to lose and can only look good with each goal. Be patient, the Green will work like demons for a period and then exhaust/frustrate, spread out your output or frustration will set in with your leaders. Goal should be 2/period vs. 4 in the first. Stress quality tape to tape and watch for lazy forwards who do the "pretend stride" as if they are coming back, generally the arms are moving to impress but the legs aren't.
Good luck to each team, the series will be fun if nothing else - cut players are always out to prove something from the goaltendies to the forwards - thats what will make this series interesting. There even may be a scout or two....here's your chance to shine Green....Gold, you will have a few more showings...

Nice to see the LjK board looks after its MM AAA teams equally. Green just finish's a tough series and they scooped greens next practice for game 1. Oh ya, they also left Golds alone the following day.
Not only did they fuck the rest of the teams by allowing 4 players to "move" to London they screw their own team at the same time.
Very transparent equal treatment. (Lets leave out the prime practice ice time, preemo schedule at the home tourney, extra fund raising opportunity's etc)
Bravo.

1:47 here. No soother needed. Just posting the obvious inequities that the LjK board has allowed to occur. Want to screw long term LjK players and build a great team by allowing imports....fine. That's the way it works. (We all know that. Perhaps if you had decent coaching at early ages, you wouldn't need tp do that, but this is a playoff thread so I won't rattle on.)
I would think they would be a little more savvy in attempting to try and make it least appear that they give a shit about green and their season. PP had it partially right, just a cash grab. Our kids would rather be playing AAA and chase their dreams, but at least the board could pretend to care and give them as much of as chance as they are the LjK Golden Knights/Chiefs/Lakers.
One practice won't change the outome of this series but make a fuckin effort to pretend to care.

Think your a bit paranoid, dont have prime practice time 9:00 till 10:30 and 8"15 till 10:15 the other 4:00 anybody can get if your parents are in agreement. practicing till after 10:00 is late so i wouldnt call that prime when we are getting home at 10:45 or 11:00
as far as extra fund raising we have got none, we got same as everybody else, except when the email came out to all the teams about few extra dates and who wanted WE jumped at it, because your team chose not to take up the email offer is no slam against green, maybe your team just didnt want to do any extra ones available good luck in the upcoming series, it will be a good one!

Yo angry chief: all the top teams cheat like your team did last year. Doesnt make it right but thats the way it works. You rolled the dice last year and failed. London cheats this year and lets see how it goes. Marlies handled em no probs at their tourney so they will probably fail too.

You dont see the HP parents on here bitching and complaing about JM "moving" to EMC a few years ago and then "moving" to London this year. they just keep playing. They also lost their top guy again this year and keep winning. Hopefully LjK and EMC board paying attention and maybe learning because it would appear that they think the Marlies progam is the way to go. Fuck your home grown talent and cherry pick talented kids with parents with deep pockets. Its sad but thats the way it is.
I know the board is volunteers but for christ sake grow a pair.

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk
January 25 2012, 1:50 PM
Depends upon definition of fail. Winning Alliance and going to OHL Cup was pretty good for EMC last year. Only one team wins these things this year and that's the Marlies. To beat them, london would have to have 'cheated' a hell of a lot more. They only needed to cheat enough to get the exposure needed for a quality look from scouts. Say what you want, but the London players have all been seen way more than anyone else in the league. What does that mean? Only that they had the best chance to have been accurately rated by scouts. Nothing more, nothing less. People who switched teams have all received exactly what they were looking for. You're dreaming if you think the goal was to win it all.

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk
January 25 2012, 2:01 PM
So JM wold not have been seen if he had stayed in Elgin or for that matter HP?
Yes they have been seen more playing on a top team. But for those top guys how much does that help? Big D from HP got invited to the big camp in the summer and he drives a tractor to practice. (No insult, country boys kick ass) If you're a top guy you could play anywhere and you will be seen. It may get some of those fringe guys drafted as they were seen more because scouts were there for the top few and they happended to see them play well on one there 20 second shifts.
If your kid is good enough they will be found and even then, its a long road. Was the money spent to "move" go to PEAC worth it? 6th round draft pick, cup of coffee in the O and then off to adult education to get your high school diploma.
Good luck to all of the kids I know how hard they all work and how bad they want to move along but lets just all agree that cheating is cheating. Drop the boundaries at Bantam casue its a fucking joke how boards allow this shit to go on so visibly. It makes you sick its so blatant.

And you finally come out with it. The only people who care are the ones who were left with a poor season and know that they are done. They will forever blame the fact that their kids aren't going to be drafted on the kids that moved. They are no less selfish than anyone else and should stop making themselves out to be heroes for staying. The only ones worthy of praise in all of this are the ones who played in their home centre and kept their mouths shut and simply enjoyed their kid's last year. That excludes every poster on here.

I dont think a lot of folks on this thread left. The point was the dumbass's (and I think you agreed) who feel they need to jump every season for some perceived gain are enabled by idiot board (s) who somehow feel that getting these obviously talented kids for a season or 2 enhances their program. The program was devloped for the local kids to meet local needs not shallow wins created by cheating and screwing the kids and parents that have funded your rogram for years.
Enough soap box stuff. True "team" chanpionship will be decided in the toliet bowl and hopefully the L(EM/HP) jr Knights/chiefs/lakers all star golden boys rep the alliance well. They are a great team built with the best money and back door manuevering could buy.

LJK organization is a joke so is the coaching look at what is going on at the 97 level. Look at what went on in the 96 level these guys all have an agenda but it will all catch up with them. unfortunatly it has affected the kids one way or another. The LJK organization has to look at itself and its selection process for coaching. Its the organization allowing these people to do what they want and that is the unfair part about playing hockey for them. All about individule agendas thats what this organization is about and nothing else. Spend several thousands of dollars for some fuken idiot to tell your son or daughter he or she does not have the talent to go on. Are these people stupid. Someone said in the 97 post that a coach suspended a kid for writting on face book. REALLY do these people think they are the law.
Yes I was a former LJK parent and my kid got drafted And declined he is now going to university and playing hockey.

Number 3 team in the province VS the number 50 team. Gold has two maybe three top round offensive players, all of which are top scorers in the province. Green has none of that offensive power.
Green goalies were scored on during a power play screen shot, two on one where D played the shooter instead of the pass, a breakaway, a walk in all alone, a nice tip in from the side and a rebound. Nothing against the green goalies it is like a practice for Gold. Gold could have scored another 10 if they wanted. Coach kept it to a four goal lead, kept his players safe and tempers cool. Do you really expect the number 50 team to have a chance against the number 3 team? Green did very well to beat Cambridge, a tribute to their players and goalies.
Lets have two more clean games and move on.

JM is the sole reason Gold is where it is. TA has helped for sure but has not had the impact JM has had. TL isn't nearly as good as CH, KT or even CM and will hurt them in the cup if the coach plays him and BVD has been a non factor. The coach could have brought JM over alone and accomplished what he has. The existing Gold players have not improved at all, still won't move the puck but at the end of the day they are still a much better team than green and they should be. Now put JM on green and lets see if things don't tighten up a bit, that would be fun to see.

TL is the only Jr Knight goalie ranked top 100 for draft ... Oddly enough CM lead the AAA league is save % and considering he was on a weak team statistically he is better. IMO CH and RB have played much better than TL also. The fact remains they are all good so too with a few A/AA goalies in London who had stellar seasons.
Not ABs mama here or a goalie dad but there just happens to be a lot of good goalies in the London area and not enough spots for them all to get noticed.

Parental jealousy is really such an ugly emotion...it continues to rear it's vicious head as minor hockey days come to an end. It is the ONLY reason a parent would act in such a childish way. Best of luck to all the kids who have worked hard to maintain their skill at a AAA level, stayed in school, and become responsible young adults. They have accomplished more than many kids at this stage. At some point the parents will move on....but not before they stomp on some more kids...just because they can.

January 26 2012, 2:30 PM
I am a green dad and I will just be glad when the season is over. The team was created to fail and for the most part it has. Gold would be fun to watch if they were playing another talented team. Our boys are doing the best they can and probably four or five kids are interchangeable but as a team they are far from competitive with Gold. Good luck to the two or three gold boys that have a chance to play some OHL hockey and to the rest I hope they are all still friends in the beer leagues in a few years.
The association should go back to one AAA team, they don't support the second team anyways so why put the kids through the stuff they have had to endure this year. For many this will be their last year of hockey it would have been nice for them to be on a competative team even if it was AA. It was nice to finally see some spark in the series against the hawks, too bad that wasn't where it ended, it would have been a good memory for them.
Gold dads relax, your boys play on a superior team, enjoy it while it lasts and remember it is your son that made the team, not you.

Question for all the parents, not just London; please advise the level of play that your son's coach played while a player. Just curious - clearly they are not required to have played NHL but I am interested at knowing what was their highest level of play? The kids are playing AAA and I realize people like Bowman etc.. could hardly skate but I am interested. I was musing over a coach (different age group) who I was watching run a practic, he was clearly never an athlete and by watching his practice I could tell he "thought" he knew a lot about the game but clearly did not - very dangerous combination. He was teaching a stacked AAA team and I was watching a team that will never improve at a level consistent with their potential. These are the teams that fizzle as they grow older, conversely, I have seen some excellent coaching with mediocre teams and they maximize their potential (coaches job). Your thoughts as the kids go forward and the pressure builds in playoffs?

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk
January 27 2012, 11:38 AM
The reality is that even from the youngest ages too many parents take it way too seriously and turn alot of qualified guys off! It is not just AAA either, as there are nutty parents in house league and all the way up.
Btw, I coached soccer for a number of years and same thing there, that is why I left coaching. It just wasn't worth the aggravation.
Eliminate the parents and good coaches will step forward.

Re: 96 AAA Alliance Playoff Talk

It has all gotten too big. How do parents not become involved when it costs thousands of dollars to play? And the time committment! Maybe if everyone took a step back and just played for fun, half the amount of ice, half the number of tournaments, no need for team outfits/bags/warmup clothes...then maybe parents would relax. If a parent is thgrowing out 6 or 7k a year, you better believe they're going to be tracking ice time.
