8:35 Progression? Lets look at the facts

2010/2011 (last season under old coaching staff)
36 GP
12 wins
19 losses
5 ties
29 points
GAA = 3.39
GFA = 2.61

2011/2012 (this season - so far)
27 GP
7 wins
16 losses
4 ties
18 points
ON TRACK FOR ONLY 24 POINTS THIS SEASON - WORSE THAN LAST YEAR
GAA = 3.78 - THIS IS ALMOST HALF A GOAL PER GAME WORSE THAN LAST YEAR
GFA = 2.04 - THIS IS MORE THAN HALF A GOAL PER GAME WORSE THAN LAST YEAR

Progression? Really???

Re: Burlington Eagle 97 A,AA,AAA Coaches 2012/13

February 7 2012, 2:59 PM

I would agree that the AAA team's regular season stats will look worse than last season, however this year's team has done much better in tournament play.

Last year's team did seem more competitive overall however. If you look at the scores from last year compared to this year, there was something like 21 or 22 games that were within 2 goals of whoever they were playing, and very few blow outs like this year. This year there is something like only 14 or so games within 2 goals, and more blow out or shut out games.

The most important for thing for this year (and going into next) is to get this group to gel, as the kids have learned that a few players get treated much differently than everyone else, no matter what they do on the ice. If the kids feel they will all be treated relatively fairly, and consequences (ie ice time) will apply to all players equally, then I think that they will respond more positively and will have a better chance in the SCTA's

AAA's are tanking big time... last time this year they were peaking going into the SCTA's..this year the exact opposite. All of the nepotism and the side deals have finally done too much damage to the team's chemistry. This team can compete if the kids know they are no agendas other than just going out and playing a team game well to get rewarded .... hopefully its been a learning experience and they can turn it around for MM.

As was shown last year, getting this team with a lack of superstars to play together can result in a competitive team, but when some players are treated like superstars, then you get what happened this year.

The import rule on the associations within the SCTA is that if any player within the league will be able to move to another team without any pass through releases. Burlington is going straight to the basement as you will lose players and gain nothing.

the players on this team can be coached to at least be competitive in the SCARs - this was proven last year.

Imports are a pretty lame way to get better and a good crutch to use if you can't do it through coaching.

The first 4 or 5 rounds of the draft are for the skilled players who are clearly above the rest
The remaining rounds are made up of prospects and other factors: ie size, politics, who you know and other influences

I wouldn't underestimate the ability of some of the kids on this team to get drafted next year.

A good coach:

1. Technical development of players: How much better did players become over the course of the season?

2. Tactical development of players: Do players understand the concept of offensive and defensive shape? Do they understand position-specifically their responsibilities?

3. Good motivator/able to bring out the best in players

4. Creates a good team environment with fairness, positivity and professionalism being key judgment points.

5. Ability to win games

Doesn't matter how many imports or players you change...

Re: Burlington Eagle 97 A,AA,AAA Coaches 2012/13

February 27 2012, 9:23 AM

pretty good analysis of this season from another thread:

Comparisons February 27 2012, 8:55 AM

Brampton
2010/2011: GF 103 GA 89 = 40 pts
2011/2012: GF 117 GA 62 = 57 pts
Rating: Improve - systems and goaltending - may be knocked out on advancing to the OMHA's if they draw either Hamilton/STA on Sunday

STA
2010/2011: GF 95 GA 95 = 37 pts
2011/2012: GF 131 GA 73 = 52 pts
Rating: Improve - coaching, scoring and goaltending. With all this up swing come crashing down next weekend

Oakville
2010/2011: GF 147 GA 47 = 64 pts
2011/2012: GF 180 GA 54 = 65 pts
Rating: Status Quo - top team and most consistent year to year - will move on to OMHA's

Hamilton
2010/2011: GF 153 GA 85 = 53 pts
2011/2012: GF 135 GA 86 = 48 pts
Rating: Status Quo - scored less, goaltenders were par, too many injuries - if health and focused they will press hard next weekend

Grey Bruce
2010/2011: GF 113 GA 72 = 42 pts
2011/2012: GF 122 GA 95 = 42 pts
Rating: Status Quo - scored more but gave up just as many. Is the dark horse for upset

Niagara Falls
2010/2011: GF 64 GA 129 = 17 pts
2011/2012: GF 59 GA 135 = 17 pts
Rating: Status Quo - scoring drought continued and back end did not have any major impacts

Niagara North
2010/2011: GF 77 GA 107 = 31 pts
2011/2012: GF 105 GA 121 = 29 pts
Rating: Status Quo - scoring increased but gave up more goals. If they can keep the puck out of the net, they can pull a one game upset in the SCTA to Hamilton/STA

Burlington
2010/2011: GF 94 GA 122 = 29 pts
2011/2012: GF 75 GA 132 = 23 pts
Rating: Decline - change in coaching back fired, lack of scoring and weak back-end. Without import zoning this team is in for another long and bad season

Guelph
2010/2011: GF 60 GA 112 = 24 pts
2011/2012: GF 60 GA 141 = 12 pts
Rating: Decline - change in coaching late has shown signs but still missing scoring balance. Needs to tighten up on the blueline and in the nets, almost gave up 1+ GA this season versus last

Halton
2010/2011: GF 65 GA 113 = 23 pts
2011/2012: GF 63 GA 149 = 15 pts
Rating: Decline - scoring remain the same but trouble at the back end and on the blueline by giving up 1+ more goal a game

They need defense badly forwards are around par with 3 or 4 above par.
It looks like GH has no powere on the way the kids play

No Power?!

Who picked the team and the D in the first place?
Who gave out C's and A's - were they deserving and have they lived up to the task?
Who decided that there are superstars on this team and tried to play them that way - what was the result?
Who made side deals? How has that impacted the chemisty and dressing room?
Which kids have developed and grown in confidence over the year?

It just appears that this ride has really only been about getting 1-2 kids exposure in the draft.

Wonder if it will be any different next year?

3 or 4 above par F is the biggest joke in SCTA. They have maybe 3 par Fs on team and thats it. cant score goals, cant stop goals. WE have easily 9 better Fs on our team as do the top 5 teams in league. To think otherwise is crazy

No power meaning can't control them as he has lost the dressing room. If theses 3-4 forwards played with good d they would be better then par and I am speaking in a perspective of a parent from one of the top 5 teams.

AA's didnt play much. Good effort by the team today but came up just short both times. Real tough loss vs STA as the game was pretty even and STA needed a late goal to win

too bad. Real tough hill to climb tomorrow

Re: Burlington Eagle 97 A,AA,AAA Coaches 2012/13

March 3 2012, 9:46 PM

all 1 goal losses, all very winnable games

solid showing by the team, most of their key players came to play

And now the end is near
And so I face the final buzzer
My friend I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain

I've played a season that's full
I traveled each and every SCTA highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Posts, I've hit a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption

I planned each PP and PK
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes there were times I'm sure you knew
When I put out the wrong guys on the PP
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way

I've won, I've tied and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that
And may I say not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a coach what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes it was my way

8 is still playing like he did in Novice. Trying to go through the whole team by himself. Wouldn't matter who was on his line. Can't do that after Atom. He has got to change and --- not much time to do it. If he doesn't, he won't help any team.

Burlington was in my opinion the most impressive team. Nobody expected them to put up a fight but they were in every game and played very well. They gave each team a fight. being able to get that out of your team at a time like this is a sign of good coaching. You nay sayers who want to see them fail can say what you want but he got them to play real well this weekend like it or not.

That is definately outside the box thinking. I might have said Oakville at 5-0 was the most impressive. Or Brampton at 4-1. Maybe even Hamilton or STA for navigating through to Sunday.

Burlington you say? I need to rethink that.

I was most impressed by Burlington because I expected them to lose all games by a large margin however they kept every game close and gave their opponents a hard time. I expected Oakville and Brampton to win their games and advance. Burlington players and coaches should be commended for a job well done regardless of the record. I am thinking outside the box. You are just a hater.

Re: Burlington Eagle 97 A,AA,AAA Coaches 2012/13

March 5 2012, 6:23 PM

The problem is that the organization latches on to a few players that are good when they are young. Then they let the parents run the team until Minor Midget or Midget. The parents have the coaches wrapped around their finger dictating who they should take on the team, who should play with their little super star and how much ice he should get. And this goes on year after year after year. Instead of kids having to fight for their spot on a team by letting in imports, you have the same kids recycled every year.

AA's just beat St. Catharines 8-1 and can move on to finals if Flamborough loses one of their two remaining games.

Even if they don't, it is quite a turn around for the AA's. Similiar to last years AAA's, they peaked at the end when it counted.

There certainly are a handful of them that could help the AAA's.

All come to play.

None of the new "talent" that was brought onto/into the AAA's this year had any positive impact, marginal at best. It was the same kids as last year that continue to produce for this club. That is why the only option is the import route to try to at least do something different next year. Unfortunately, we will see what is needed to get them to come here, more back door deals likely could make for another long season in Eagleland, especially if they don't produce

Burlington you are wacked, GH did the best he could do with what he had, he probably made some mistakes probably some wrong decision with player, listened to too many people, it is his first year coaching in this association. Probalby wont make the same mistakes next and the team could be 500. Last year coach certainly had a run but he has been apart of this team for years and no go results. Last year coach certainly has coached more and has more experience. For the sake of the players lets hope he makes the right choices and they have a great year next year good luck to GH he will do better that is for sure.
