Bullshit thread Neither Team is posting here TROLLER . Series should be good and it wouldn't surprise anyone if either team won

IMO Winner of this series takes the loop. Lakeshore should re-seed after 1st round like YS we could potentially have PP # 6 playing Belleville # 7 to see who gets to the finals not to say they are bad teams but is it fair to Teams who finished above them

I know you've got to beat them all to win but it makes a huge morale difference to a team if they lose in the final vs. semi

Just saying

Watching last nights game we'll be ready for either team if/when we advance Looking fwd to good game Saturday night

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

February 27 2012, 12:57 PM

If you only look at individual skill then you simply don't understand team sports.

If you have 2 players that skate the same speed, have the same stick handling ability, and have equally good shots which one do you select for your team ? There's a lot of parents on here that can't see beyond that.

I'll take...

the play maker over the puck hog

the player who can make the pass and take the hit over the coward who bails out on the play to save his own skin

the player who can take the hit and not retaliate over the one who cannot stay out of the box

the player who demonstrates he understands where he needs to be over the lemming who chases the puck everywhere

the player who shows the team's success is more important than his own individual success

Run down the current rosters and reorganize them based on the above criteria and there's your applicable adjustments needed to put players where they truly belong.

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

February 28 2012, 12:40 PM

I will not criticize any minor by name (or initials), so I am not proposing any individuals just so you can then slander them.

There are at least 3, possibly 4 players who could easily play at the AA level. They have played there before, and for argument's sake, even if their skill level is merely equal, it is still a net gain for AA as the players they could easily replace currently hurt the AA team more than they help it.

Once the difference in skill is negligible, then you have to look beyond skill: game sense, work ethic, heart, timidness, attitude, selfishness.

Happens all the time in the Swha....had an Oshawa 97 A team back in peewee that only lost two games in the regular season and was ranked higher in the MyHockeyRankings 97AA category than the 97AA team that year.

Says something about Oshawa coaches and selection process doesn't it....

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

March 5 2012, 8:36 AM

Whenever someone dodges a simple question then there's usually something someone doesn't want to talk about. So I looked it up.

The first year this coach you speak of won 20 games and 2 losses.

The second year the same coach won 3 games. This is the answer you didn't want to admit.

So you're saying that in the second year when the players moved up to AA, that's why A did so poorly the following year ?

These players that moved up to AA - where were they the year before this coach won 20 games ? Ahh, so they didn't just move up to AA, they actually returned to AA.

So your point is the kids made this coach look good ?

You know you should really stop trying to take credit away from the current coach who has done an excellent job ! He has taken a team that only won 3 games to the OMHA semi finals (and the finals are looking very good), and without any recruiting. Now THAT's real coaching !!!

I only hope he remains the coach for next year as well.

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

March 5 2012, 11:16 AM

but isn't the team full of kids who were AA last year? It is the same argument, A results are dependent on what the AA coach does that year. Also, the nrp thing at AA probably trickled down to A even though A didn't take their own NRP. Certainly the coaching is good, no argument. But that's not the only thing.

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

March 5 2012, 3:44 PM

yes that is definitely a valid argument, but keep in mind a couple considerations

- "full of AA players" ? not even close - only 3 players dropped down from AA to A for this past season

- this is the first season for the current coach, so it is unfair to make the same comparison yet, unlike the previous coach where there is overwhelming evidence

Hardly the same scenario

At Minor Peewee A this team did well lossing in the OMHA prelims because 90% of the team was sick but their regular season records was fantastic. The following year at Peewee the AA team did well with many players moving up from the A team the previous year. THe A coach stayed the same for the peewee year and the team struggled with many new faces to the A level. He has however developed those boys and the ones that moved to AA into players capable of playing A or AA in most cases. Don't look at the records look at the players he's help move up the system and you will see success

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

March 6 2012, 8:23 PM

3:30 - RS or BT - you are really desperate for salvaging your credibility aren't you ?

Are you actually reading your own posts ?

"THe A coach stayed the same for the peewee year and the team struggled with many new faces to the A level."

...so in other words, you admit that unless you recruit players that are already developed by someone else, you don't know what to do with them.

So RS/BT are now trying to take credit for MT's success, as well as JF's success ??? Wow.

Let go of the 20 game season RS. It was your moment in the spotlight. You deserved GM of the year, but not coach of the year. Everyone knows what you did the season before that, and especially the season after that. Just keep replacing the light bulb on the mantel and keep dusting that plaque. BT keep googling drills, and maybe upgrade that clipboard to an iPad so you can google right from the bench.

MT has gone even further than your 20 game season with virtually the same kids and made them a contender for the OMHA title !! Damned fine work !!!

Yes, both MT and RS are nice guys. MT just knows what he's doing when it comes to hockey.

Congrats to this year's 'A' team on an excellent season regardless of the final outcome.

Oshawa should start their better goalie everygame. I've only seen about 9 games this year, but from what i've seen JH proves to be the stronger tender. START HIM EVERY GAME! Go win this for oshawa boys!

Whichever $@%$ing idiot at 10:23 is trying to start a goal controversy, at the time when the team needs regroup and pull together the most (which they showed they could do yesterday), probably isn't much of a help for their team, either! Your helping those who want Oshawa to lose! St Thomas loves you, there gonna put a statue of you next to Jumbo!
This team has played close to like 50 games, plus tournes--20 games just in playoffs--and you saw 9 of them so youre an expert? Most of the teams they played in playoffs have seen more of them than that.
If you weren't at the Torunaments, or Whitby or Coburg games, or Richmond Hill games, especially last Saturday (like ST Thomas did), you have NO @#$&ING IDEA what you're talking about. A lot of people in Oshawa Minor, the Lakeshore, Richmond Hlll, and other places, do. Ask them!
These boys have worked their system successfully for six months to earn the chance of a lifetime for many of them. There's an old sports saying 'Go with what brung ya!' Coaches have to decide whether to do that.
If you can't be help ful or supportive, shut the $#%^@ up! What ever you think, now is not the time!
There are people who know a lot more on this subject, and coud tell you how much you don't know.
Cut it out, before they try to.
What I mean by that is:
IF anyone is moved to respond, to any part of this thread, please DO NOT PUT ANYTHING or facts ON HERE or the other threads WHICH MIGHT BE USEFUL TO ST THOMAS> Use your heads!

Go GENs!

Having seen and played against Oshawa this year there is definitely one goalie who is better than the other. That said, the team has had success going with 2 goalie rotation, they are in OMHA finals so why mess with success.
Good luck in representing the Lakeshore league.

What is # of kid who broke leg?

your an idiot. oshawa could have won that game if the better goalie played. The one who started last game has been out of his mode lately. If he doesnt gain his focus back then we will just see a repeat of last game.

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

March 19 2012, 7:07 PM

3:41 Oshawa could have won that game IF…and IF your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle…there are a lotta bloody iffs coulda helped Oshawa win the game.
St Thomas was gonna come out flying, everybody knew it. Oshawa got lucky, scored a quick one, then took March Break . allowed 6 or 8 scoring chances with nobody home but the goale, and 4 of those wound up on the scoreboard. Starter might not have been on hi sgame, but it didn’t take ST long to score on the relief pitcher, either, same old same old. That was about the point that Oshawa woke up, but they didn’t play as complete a game as they did Saturday. They had chances to tie, and IF they had played a little more together...ST Thomas’ goalie is decent but beatable (he even beats himself), but he always had lots of green-suited company…come to think of it, the Oshawa goalies had lots of green-suited company, too. Gonna take some hard work to change that equation, but IF the lads are willing to work at it...

Lot of opinions, damn few facts. Bottom line is results. Alternating goalies, not to hard to figure out who played which games. Somebody go thru the websites, figure out who’s been able to get'er done, whether the last series, or the playoff run, or all season if you’ve got the time. Sunday’s game was what it was. Was there a stronger keeper, like buddy says, coming in to this series? Results talk, bullshit walks, no excuses.

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

March 20 2012, 2:20 PM

First of all yes there are a few kids that can play AA that should not be on A. After the 2nd goal the goalie should have been pulled because he was fighting the puck. ST Thomas has shorten there bench and we have not. When we play our tall slow kids we struggle in our zone against their speed (it is like a power play for the other team). St.Thomas is a better playing Team but Oshawa is better overall skilled team and have hands that can score. This is not news, we have seen this all year against Whitby Blue and R. Hill. Oshawa is not a very disciplined hockey team (that comes from the bench). Oshawa is a run and gun team and when they play with a swagger they are very good. But when things do not go there way the kids are arguing between them selfs on the bench who is going to get more ice time or something else(again that should be stopped at the bench.) Going with 10 forwards and mixing up all 3 lines on every shift I belive has hurt the chemistry of the forwards. I understand why but I think it hurts us in the long run. This is the OMHA Championship and it is time to play to win not to make friends. If kids do not want to play hard both ends of the ice then those kids should sit. If they are always in the penalty box they should sit. If we play ST Thomas with our speed and skill Oshawa will beat this team but if we just keep roling the lines and take penalties we will lose. So it all comes down to how M.T. want s to play this. Does he want to win our does he not. I wish all the kids the best and hope they can come together and do something not to many Oshawa Team have done.

When u see a line that plays together well, and only gets to play together once or twice a periodd, but wehn they do it's like poetry, that's frustrating.
Unfortunately back to 9 forwards, maybe consistent lines will help offensive flow, may also make the breakouts more consistent helping the def zone coverage. discpline and skating and working hard will make that work better, and all over the ice

Re: OSHAWA 97 A

St Thomas:

'hard on the puck'--can't often stick check them, and if you reach for the puck they stick check u

always have a stick or hand, or sometimes a knee or foot, on whoever they're chasin g or trying to check; if you skate hard that will work against them

quick on the puck and the reboudns--anticipating the play, they're there waiting, but that's not rocket science

hustle all the time; you can't let up against them, their pace is fast but Osh can play that fast and hard

big point shots, really, taking big shots from anywhere--have to play positional, that means u better win the one on one battles in your zone because you can't have wingers collapsing

lotta low shots, typical of really working a control game down low
