This team has 66 who is a terrific player but the real star is 97. Have seen him do so many different things and play at both ends of the ice. Well rounded player. I would take him over any 96 right now. Should have a great future.

CMCD is the best player to come around in years. Maybe the best since Tavares. This team is possibly the best team since the 89 TM.

Hey 2:24, there is no need to be disrespectful about a kid. He's a class player. Who knows what the future is for him because he is admittedly not that big. Still, he is an outstanding minor hockey league player. There is no doubt about that.

Re: 96 Marlies AAA

February 15 2012, 10:00 AM

There are a lot of skilled players on the Marlies which is why most of them were in the Prospect's Game. 97 is very good, but he's not the whole team. #66 looses the puck waaay too often while trying to show off and the "star" defensemen continuously gets caught out of position.

Vaughan is a good team as well. The ice rink at Victoria Village (last night's game) is very small, so Vaughan switched goalies to their "back up" goalie (who played amazingly), parked three players in front of the net and took away time and space from the marlies - which is always a very effecive way to beat the marlies, or in this case, tie.

So you are calling the big B the back up goalie, I never understood the love of CH. Great goalie yes, has size yes but B has always kept the boys in the game when needed the last few years and once again did so. Its a team game and perhaps DD is getting that. You don't have as many super stars but you do have a great team when used that way.

Re: 96 Marlies AAA

Marlies played like they had already won and Vaughan played with intense desperation. Small rink favoured Vaughan and they played to that advantage well. Marlie defence looked a bit shaky and had some questionable give aways. Marlie's 66 looked tired not the same jump as in past games

Don't be so high on yourself you arrogant parent afterall its not about you and the other marlie parents.

This is a team with some very good boys on it. Of varying talent no doubt but all still good "boys"
Parents need to step back and let them truly enjoy the last month of their minor hockey
Reality is that 90% of theses "boys" will be off to junior/prep school/ushl next year

Re: 96 Marlies AAA

February 22 2012, 11:23 PM

So everyone thinks the 1989 Marlies were the best minor hockey team ever?

How about the OMHA's Markham Waxers 1990's?

Marlies 89's - 12 OHL Draft picks
Waxers 90's - 12 OHL Draft picks, 1 free agent

Marlies 89's - 1,394 man-games in OHL
Waxers 90's - 1,757 man-games in OHL

Marlies 89's - 3 players to NCAA D-1
Waxers 90's - 2 players to NCAA D-1

Marlies 89's - 1 player in CIS hockey
Waxers 90's - 8 players in CIS hockey

Marlies 89's - 7 NHL draft picks
Waxers 90's - 4 NHL draft picks plus 1 free agent

Marlies 90's - 3 players who have seen action in the NHL to date
Waxers 90's - 5 players who have seen action in the NHL to date

You need to include this team in the discussion as well. The world doesn't always rotate around the GTHL.

Myopic GTHL parents, shocking! LMFAO

What is most telling is that in spite of the fact these were real powerhouse minor hockey teams, look how few of even these players on these teams are actually in the show!

Re: 96 Marlies AAA

HEAR AND THERE

I was 10 years old when the Maple Leafs won their last Stanley Cup. George Armstrong scored into the empty net and my father sent me to bed. A 10-year-old today would have no frame of reference for a Leafs team in the playoffs ... Not that we’re advocating gambling here, but if you had bet $100 on the Red Wings and continued rolling your winnings on the Wings through their 23-game winning streak, you would have ended up with just over $3 million. Then again, in the 24th game, you might have lost it all against the Canucks ... Remember when John Tavares was supposed to be the exception when he was granted early entry in the Ontario Hockey League as a 15-year-old? Well, this year, for the second year in a row, an underage minor midget, Connor McDavid, will be granted early status and almost certainly will be picked first in the OHL selection draft ... For those wondering about Blake Wheeler of the Winnipeg Jets? He was acquired by Rick Dudley, now working for the Leafs ... As I’m watching Toronto play New Jersey on Tuesday night, I’m thinking: How different would the standings be if Wilson coached the Devils and Peter DeBoer coached the Leafs.
