97 OBA

Spring training has started... so lets kick off the baseball talk.
With brampton returning to the proper age group is this just a 2 team race again? Miss N and brampton? Ajax and pickering have combined, does that make them a contender? What about whitby, london and North york? Any additions? Just want to hear your thoughts...

Not only does baseball have screaming mothers but they tend to be fatter and uglier than any hockey moms especially in the summer when they wear shorts and short sleeves and you can see those lovely vericose veins cellulite and butt cracks. It's also so nice to see them smoking cigarettes and blowing smoke all over the stands and field. Nice role models you fatties.

Brampton wins Kim tournament in Mississauga on May 20

The game can change in an instant. And change it did.

Brampton Royals catcher Darren Shred fired to third to pick off Mississauga North Tigers’ Jake Medeiros in a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh. The throw hit Medeiros in the helmet and bounced into left.

Tie game, right?

Left fielder Ryan Koivu threw a strike to Shred to erase Medeiros and Brampton was on its way to a 4-3 win in the final of the 20-team, sixth annual Michael Kim memorial tournament at Rivergrove in Mississauga Sunday.

Austin Ferguson singled leading off the seventh, scored on a Shred triple to tie the game and Shred scored on a wild pitch as Brampton rallied from a 3-2 deficit.

Brampton’s Nathan Arruda pitched six innings allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, striking out nine for the win. Josh Marson gained the save.

Josh Naylor knocked in two runs for the Tigers while James Diflorio doubled and Medeiros had two hits.

Naylor won the home run derby, while Brampton’s Jade Salmon-Williams, Shred, Arruda and Ferguson were the fastest quartet touring the bases.

Brampton beat North York 11-0, Mississauga Southwest 20-0 and the WOBA Bulls 13-0 in round-robin play before beating Scarborough 14-0 and West Toronto 4-0.

The Tigers beat Scarborough 11-1, London 14-0, Newmarket 14-2 and reached the final with an 18-5 win over Guelph and 15-4 triumph over North Toronto.

Obviously both Tigers & Brampton are playing at a level above the rest. Both high scoring teams but Brampton not allowing a run until the finals is impressive.
Honourable mention should go to West Toronto. Not sure how their other games went but from these stats they were the only team able to hold one of these top 2 teams to single digits.

I agree, all kids are bigger and stronger. Will not be a walk for anyone (look at the stacked North York team last year). However, you need to score runs to win, which many teams have not done against the Royals this year.

Re: 97 OBA

June 25 2012, 3:40 PM

Don't know where you all have been hiding, there are only 2 teams that can win the Elim tourny: Tigers or Royals and my money is on the Royals. Simply a more balanced team with better overall pitching, more consistent defence and bats. No other team in Ontario will beat the Royals in any best of series and the Elimns may come down to a best of 2 tourny.

Re: 97 OBA

It all comes down to managing the pitching. Depth of pitching will determine the eliminations winner not who has won one game in May or June.

Re: 97 OBA

June 26 2012, 11:55 AM

Totally agree plus injuries will also play a large part of the Elims. The Elims are a journy that can take a toll on even the best teams. You have to get to the unbeaten round to save your pitchers and players as a whole. Other teams will play their best against the top two teams which can also take a toll on the best teams. However this is exactly why they are the best teams because they deal with this at every tournament and at every game.

Initial thoughts are Burlington, but anything can happen at the Elims...I've seen it first hand.

Either way, always a great tournament.

Re: 97 OBA

August 4 2012, 12:22 PM

New Era the lead. However, the play was reversed, and Jacobs was sent back to third base, as the home plate umpire mistakenly insisted that the errant pitch had struck Hiemstra in the foot. Field manager Tom Valcke, who rarely challenges umpires’ decisions, disputed the call, but got nowhere. In an attempted double-steal following the next pitch, Jacobs was nailed at the plate.

In the home half of the eighth, with a runner on third and one out, the Stingers executed a text book suicide squeeze bunt to defeat New Era. Scarborough went on to defeat the Burlington Bulls 8-7 on Friday night to remain undefeated. The other three 2-0 teams heading into Saturday are the Markham Mariners and the tournaments top two seeds, the Brampton Royals and the Mississauga North Tigers

Couldn't finish due to weather.

3 Teams left. Burlington beat Tigers to give the Tigers their first loss. Brampton beat Burlington by 1 run to remain the only undefeated team. Burlingon and the Tigers need to play at a later date to see who goes on to take on Brampton in the final.

Re: 97 OBA

All 3 move on.
Royals Win Elims spot, Coba League and Coba playoffs spot.
Therefore League spot and playoff spot are given to tigers and bulls.
Goodluck to all in OBAs

Re: 97 OBA

August 15 2012, 11:03 AM

That sounds kind of fishy to me. COBA's isn't finished yet. There are only 2 spots available. One goes to the league champ and the other to the highest finsher other than the league champ at th COBA playoffs. How did all 3 get there? Since Brampton is in the final for the COBA championships, the other spot should go to the winner of the Burlington/Mississauga game.

The elimination winner automatically gets a birth in the provincials . Brampton's win allows for three teams from COBA to be eligible .

Interesting. According to the OBA classificationhttp://www.baseballontario.com/filestore/htmleditattachedfiles/2012_classification_bantam2012-07-30t10-23-05v001_by_292.pdf there is nothing about an automatic bid for eliminations winner. It shows 11 teams in the tournament. I smell a conspiracy.........
