TRW won't be in top three. Lost 3 top players replaced with three average players. Rebesl big improvement with a couple of add.'s and JRC and Sen's will likely be ahead of TRW.

Re: 97 GTHL AAA teams 2012-2013

June 7 2012, 9:17 AM

Marlies
Rebels
JRC
TRW

Games between these 4 teams will be tight. I like final order above but there could be upsets. There are 10-15 solid ohl players in this grouping.

Sens
Nats
Majors
Titans
Flyers

Flyers will compete more and maybe get 8th spot. Big drop from top 4 teams.

Kings
Reps
Rangers

These are not AAA teams.

PLEASE REBELS PARENTS FEED YOUR DWARF KIDS THIS SUMMER ITS MINOR MIDGET YEAR DIFFERENT BALL GAME. NO TO MENTION THE HEAD COACH IS GOING TO PLAY THE HEKK OUT OF HIS KID AND COST THE REBELS VALUALBLE POINTS. MARLIES WILL BE STRONG AND THE TITANS HAVE SENS CASTOFF THAT WERE CUT. {CAPS BUTTON BROKE BEFORE ALL YOU TEACHERS GET ON HERE WITH YOUR NIY\\T WIT COMMENTS}OH FORGOT RAPP IS GONE THEIR BEST PLAYER GUESS HE IS EASLIY REPLACED.

8:39. You must be a Sen as your intellect shows. Let me think Tropea, cut from TRW and Rebels and now on the gong show. Sens will only be a mid pak team, and will be a complete gong show with the head cases pick up from TRW which only add's to the existing zoo.

Sorry Sen's you wont' be in same class as Rebels. And if your CAP key broke tells me about your IQ and position. Go back to the factory.

Sorry DMF suc, sen's a collection of goons, which worked well last year for Red wings.... Not. So this year with league changes we will see. My pick as a bottom place team participant is Rebels fewest player changes, and best coaching, and nice pick ups, plus beat Marlies all year exception being finals. Will be interesting to see if their changes were enough.

The only thing TRW will blow up is your son's team when they play them . This team has made enough changes to challenge for top spot. Their roster, albeit, still missing JT from SCC ( fighting OMHA for release ) should get the attention of anyone who has any hockey knowledge as far as the GTHL and OMHA. They have gone to a very skilled and fast team and have still retained size. Goaltending should be among the best this coming year. All players training hard and getting into top shape for first real important minor hockey season... we shall see

Something to think about...

Your kid has less than 1 in 200,000 chance of making a real career in the NHL out of this recreational sport. Even if your kid is a AAA superstar, he will in all likelihood end up in the junior pro leagues at best. There he will toil for $40k per year from 19 - 27, never playing a game in the NHL, only to be let go as he approaches his thirties with no education and no chance at a real job.

It is the quintessential dead end career path!

So all you parents on N54 busy plotting out juniors next career move, take a step back and ask yourself where are you going with all this? who you are doing this for and why?

Reality check time folks, enjoy the game but get an education.

Chemistry is a big thing with any team, and now that these boys have some maturity, they are no longer oblivious to the $hit that goes on behind the scenes. Talent is not everything anymore, and you will see this with the decline of the Marlies for sure. If the Wings parents can reign in their personalities a bit, this would help them out.

3:38..Really?? Maybe your "so called" OR parent/friend (with the different story), isnt quite telling you the whole truth! And since you dont have a kid on the team, obviously, most likely she doesnt want to hurt your feelings with what a great team it will be. Either your kid was let go, and youre bitter and she knows it or youre just nosey and she's telling you what you wanna hear..believe me!! All the parents are satisfied because their kid is happy and on a great team. Sorry to bust your bubble but know all of them and you, my friend, are slightly off course from the truth.

The Chances of “Making It” in Pro Hockey

http://www.omha.net/flash.asp?page_id=242

The “1975” group of players was considered by many NHL Scouts as the strongest group of players the province has ever produced.

Out of those 232 players drafted to the OHL, only 105 ever played one game in the OHL.
Out of those 105 players, only 90 finished their full 3 or 4 years of eligibility in the OHL.
Of those 30,000 players, only 42 played NCAA Division I hockey! Remember too that U.S.scholarships are not the large educational packages that have been offered by NCAA schools in the past (see more information below). The following “1975” players had either full or partial NCAA scholarships.
There were 56 players from the “1975” age group that were either drafted or signed by a National Hockey League team (by far the most of any birth year Ontariohas experienced!). Fourty-eight (48) of those 56 players were drafted by NHL teams!
Of the 48 drafted players only 39 signed contracts with NHL teams. Eight players signed as free agents after going un-drafted as NCAA or major junior players.
Of the 48 signed players, only 32 have seen action to date in an NHL game.
Of the 32 players with NHL experience, only 15 have played more than one (1) full NHL season!
Of these 32 players, only 21 were active in the NHL as of April 1, 2002.
Of those 32 who have played an NHL game to date, only 18-20 will earn a second contract with an NHL team. About half of those players earning second contracts will see them finish that second contract with an NHL team. The remainder of the 56 players will toil in the minor pros in the IHL, AHL, ECHL or Europe.
Of the 32 players who have seen action in an NHL game, only six (6) have qualified for the NHL’s Player Pension (minimum 400 games in the NHL!).

Reality check time folks, enjoy the game but get an education.

Not everyone who supports their kid or their kid's team on N54 thinks their kid is going to the show! Why does that moron keep cutting and pasting that Winnie the Pooh thing on all of these threads? Maybe, just MAYBE there are some sensible parents with their kids in hockey, supporting their kids' dreams and trying to give them all of the tools to become confident and successful adults. Participation in competitive sports provides so much more than the mere slim chance at doing it professionally. Most of us get that, and for those that don't, posting the odds of "making it" won't help them get it.

Good luck to all of the boys and their families in this league for the upcoming year. I personally think it will be the most competitive year yet and both my son and myself are very excited about the road that lies ahead.

1121 is dead on. More of us should get the message which is loud and clear. We have spent too much time and money on hockey. No one likes to admit mistakes and everyone thinks they are the 1 in miliion who will hit the lottery. Sad reality is there is a very good chance only CMD will play in the show from the 97s.

You are on glue. DD and TF will implode this team. No dee and program every year has big plans and busts becuase of the coaching, parents etc. Only two teams will compete Marleis and Reb's and expect TRW might push a little. JRC good luck fighting for 4th to go out 1st round as you have done every year since Minor Atom.

You're probably right. But the 97s are not invincible, as shown in the playoffs this past year. Every team thinks they got better, and TM have had a few changes, too. I think if anything, by the end of the regular season, the top 3-4 teams will be very tight, the middle 4-5 teams will be all close, and the bottom 3-4 teams will be very far behind. Only time will tell.

More like this

Marlies - only real AAA team in this crappy loop

Rebs
Wings - only other 2 reasonable decent AAA teams

A whole lot of bad hockey after these 3 teams. League could get 2 more teams if teams consolidated. Bottom 4 or 5 teams are so bad it makes the gTHL look terrible.

Will be higher than 3rd, but do think team may have a tough time to repeat. Missing two dee, and one goalie to date with one dee now seriously hurt and really no upgrades, whereby Rebels added and TRW could surprise, but coaching and discipline will be a factor. JRC look good but no dee.

July 26 2012, 1:10 PM

Who keeps putting TRW in the top 3? Idiot, we've listened to the same ole shit every year since Fonzie arrived. Reality is he's a goon! It's all he knows so it's all he can teach them to do. Can't blame the kids, coach tells 'em to play like goons and too many TRW parents reinforce it by acting like goons so what chance do the poor kids have to learn how to play hockey?

I'm sure any scout that shows up next year will take one look and see they're undisciplined running around like a bunch of out of control idiots with no visible implementation of a game plan. Complement this by childish behavior by the coaches on the bench and parents in the stands and the scouts will tune out by the third shift of the game when they realize it doesn't get any better. Can't blame the kids because they are simply an extension or reflection of the coaches philosophy or angry short mans syndrome.

To accurately assess TRW chances, they will finish in 7th plus or minus one spot. Behind TM, MR, JRC, Sens, Nats, TT and ahead by default of being so weak NYR, MM, VK, Reps and DMF.

What puts the Marlies in first? History? I think this team and the majority of its players peaked a while back. Now with the loss of a couple of key pieces and their replacements not being upgrades, where does that leave them? Who has stepped in to replace KC as the set-up man to make MS look good? I feel sorry for that kid: he went from a star centre and team leader a few years ago to pawn with the Marlies. Hopefully he'll find a better fit with the Red Wings, but I can't see him fitting into their "hit-first-ask-questions-later mentality". It should be a very interesting year for sure.

Re: 97 GTHL AAA teams 2012-2013

July 26 2012, 5:18 PM

Here is another view

Scouts will be watching players not neccesarily teams, no secret the more wins = teams with better players.

1) size matters, if under 5'10" and Dad is less then 6'gotta be a goal scoring machine to go high

2) teams with the best goaltending will be most successful, so look at that when making your list

3)Regardless of team talent every game will be closer, boys are bigger, faster, stronger so less time and space

4) GTHL void in this age group of superstars (c'mon Dad you know it's true)

5) believe top six spots wide open to include in any Order but listed with last years tops Marlies, Rebels, Titans, Sens, Wings, Nats...these teams have the best goaltending of teams in the league. Not getting into who has the best but be assured whatever team finishes the highest will have great goaltending since talent similiar with all. Problem with Canadians & Flyers might be in the pipes cause do possess good talent and good coaching. Speaking of coaching, could hurt Titans and Red Wings since both coaches cut from the same cloth, Over Zealous, Over Emotional, both have a history of aggresive physical behaviour which will effect team moral, and players state of mind.

6) many parents you know will surprise, all by their adverse actions

You know nothing of coaching if you cast a negative light on titans and trw coaches. Both have had much praise and endorsement from heads of scouting from OHL teams as well as words of praise from ex-pros, both in the NHL, USA and Europe. ( I was present when such praise was being conveyed ) That's good enough for me and my son. Now you want to discuss goon tactics? Just look at the Sens and Reps coaches, then comment. Get your facts straight, then we can have an adult conversation, until then.... well, you know happy.gif

Re: 97 GTHL AAA teams 2012-2013

July 26 2012, 10:13 PM

What I personally think the standings will be like

1st- Marlies
2nd- Wings
3rd- Rebels
4th- Titans
5th- JRC
6th- Nats
7th- Sens
8th- Flyers
9th- Reps
10th- Majors
11th- Kings
12th- Rangers

Top 5 teams will be a lot closer than everything is saying they will be. Nats and Sens won't be far away,
but they won't be able to compete in the race. As for the bottom teams, who cares. I believe that the
Marlies will be able to keep 1st place, but I don't think they will be ahead by a landslide, and a few teams
will give them a good run for their money during the season. As for the playoffs, it's a completely different
game. We shall see which of the teams are true a TEAM. I think anyone of the top 5 teams will be able to
challenge the Marlies. I'm not putting the Marlies on a pedestal, but I still think they are a top team.
As I was reading this thread, I saw that the Titans were being underestimated, but I think they will
surely compete for a high rank think season. Rebels will compete and have a good season, as always.
Everyone seems to bash the Wings and I don't understand why. The players on that team are not goons.
Go look at their roster, seriously! JRC will also be a team that will compete, but I think they will lose a few
key games to teams lower than them in the standings, and that's what will put them lower than the four teams
ahead of them. I can honestly say, the Sens will be the "goon team" this year. Looking at their roster you can
see they have some good players, but many players on that team are "goons". The Flyers will be ran by PM.
The kid will put that team on his back. He has incredible intelligence on the ice and is a good player. His vision
and intelligence makes up for his size. The rest of the teams, I have no idea what to expect from them. I can't see
the Rangers finish above last. The Kings have no players, except maybe a few. I don't know what the Majors will
do this year. Lastly, I think the Reps will surprise the league and show them they aren't that bad of a team.

Like I said before, this is just what I, myself think. If you think differently, which you probably do, then feel
completely free to disagree.

I do agree with the last poster, to some extent: AC has always fielded a competitive team, but he lacks good help on the bench. The RW coach tried a physical angle and when that came back to haunt them, he tweaked things, so he needs some credit, just not sure how much. Sens and Reps squads are the least disciplined of all of the teams, and that comes straight from the coaching, or lack thereof.

Exactly. They are just like the reps and sens but with more talent. No accountability to the team. The kid who left to the
Marlies had talent but knew it was lost in the Red Wing model. Not saying he will thrive with
The Marlies, but at least he was smart enough to know to look elsewhere for a disciPlined team.

Re: 97 GTHL AAA teams 2012-2013

July 31 2012, 8:00 PM

I can't predict 1-12, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be in three groups.

Top group will be very close this year, probably within 6 pts from 1-4: TM, MR, JRC, TT

Middle group will be 10-12 pts back, but very close together: TRW, Sens, Nats

Bottom group will be waaaaaay back, fighting for last playoff spot: DMF, MM, Reps, VK, NYR

Buddy thwere are really 4 groups here

AAA teams
TM and Rebs

weak AAA teams
Red Wings and JRC

AA teams with a couple AAA players who have some fight
Sens, Titans Flyers and Nats

last 4 teams are so bad they cant be classified but they have no business in a minor midget AAA loop

That said the G is brutally weak this year even top 2 teams will not compete with best squads from top omha and us loops

that's just like saying that the NY Islanders, Columbus, Calgary,Winnipeg should all drop out of the NHL and join the AHL and all the weak AHL teams should fold your not too bright every sports team has weak and strong teams just leave it at that

On the flip side , its like saying the AHL is comparible to the AA. There are definately players in the AHL who can play in the NHL after all that is where they develop before moving on to the NHL.

109 Ya that's a good comparison! Yurrrr a jeanioss.

The bottom end teams are not made up of AAA calibre players - everyone knows that. Way too many AAA teams in Ontario. It's made a bunch of ego maniac parents happy but its ruined elite level hockey for the truly elite and its made for long winters for all the AA kids forced to play AAA by their messed up parents.

I have to agree. Maybe the two orgs with the worst overall records in AAA should be dropped, make it a 10 league team, still top 8 in playoffs. It's happening in major junior, why not minor hockey?

JG of the GTHL is all about the money NOTHING about the kids! You go to a hearing with the GTHL and they have a three person panel, the person on the right plays the good cop the person on the left plays the bad cop and the guy in the middle play with himself! The only way to change the GTHL is to take it to the papers or sue them!

GTHL is all about money, so 12 teams will never go down to 10.........

JG has nothing to do with it. You cannot force an owner to sell his business regardless what it is. These are all privately owned organizations. Where did you take your business law? Harveys?

Parent Scouts

August 4 2012, 12:47 PM

Tip for parents who think they are scouts.

1)You are not looking for the players that everyone talks about. (Those are too obvious)

2) Do not base your opinion/decisions on who scored the goal. Look at who is consistently on the ice when a goal is scored. Also watch the defensive side of the game. eg: positioning, turn-overs and back checking. Floaters score more goals (no doubt about that)

3)Solid players that are not rattled easily and don't take penalties all the time. (The PK is not the way to win hockey games)

4) Players that skate well and communicate on the ice understand the game.

5) Players that play well at the role that they are good at. (This is the way it works)

6) Players that acknowledge the other guys on the ice with them. (when a goal is scored do they thank the guy who passed it to them ?)

7) Body language.

8) Consistency in general.

9)work ethic. (not just offensively or when they have the puck)

10) Do they get along in the room with others. ( no one wants a poop disturber)

There will be lots of size differences this year, as there has been in the past. By this age, the best kids have figured out how to play to their strengths. The successful smaller kids are quick and shifty and smart. My kid and I are looking forward to this season. Let's hope that the love of the game prevails over the insanity that the draft year can bring.

There will be some good hockey this year. But as a parent thats been through this once before I can tell you it's gonna be a sad year for the parents and some of the kids as jealousy, envy, anger get in the way. Everyone thinks their kid is as good as every other kid (which isnt the case) but because of it coaches get beaten up, parents take pot shots at kids, parents stop being friends. It's sad really after all these years.

Marlies and Rebs will play for G title just like the 96s did. May very well play for OHL cup title like the 96s as well. The rest of the league just doesnt have the horsepower to stay with these two clubs.

Marlies had a better collection of talent last year, with the exception of goaltending, but this year it's much closer. The differentiator will be team chemistry.
