This team has had a great core since Novice. The problem is that when the focus is on building a "superstar" you don't get results a team would otherwise achieve. This is a lesson lost with many hockey teams/associations. Not just SCC. There are teams in the OMHA (and certainly other leagues) that should still be winning championships; but, they are grossly underachieving because the player (individual) that they focus on building cannot do it all by himself. If you pick 17 players, give them the opportunity to contribute and succeed. Know that every player brings something to the team. Great coaches know how to extract the best from every player.

I am sure that you can think of fine examples of those on every level. Islanders during their dynasty years, it was not just about Bossy, Nystrom, etc.

Clearly SCC is breaking up with many kids leaving or have not been asked back. The sun is shining and many famalies were away for march break. They have checked out of Hockey for now.

The ETA championships are mainly put on for the younger teams that want to feel like they won something, after getting bounced for the OMHAs. After PeeWee when the kids are old enough to realize it doesnt mean anything, they start looking at next season and the "give a crap" level plummets.

99.9% of game don't mean anything. If your kids are saving their all for the 7th game of the finals they will never make to the finals.

This is not an attempt to down play Markhams win and effort but lets put it into perspective. The boys from SCC went the distance with YSE, they worked hard and came up short. During the season they were a good competitive team and had at least a win against all the top teams. There season was geared to advancing in the OMHA'S. Failing that the season was over for them the ETA'S are mandatory you have no choice but to play in the loser's group.

Markham on the other hand have been a very poor team all season. Whoopi 4th place. They made the playoff's and true to season form 3 and out and not competitive. Now for them the ETA'S are a place to shine as it is all the losers which they have been for the majority of the season, so now this is the chance to win some games when the other team who beat you all season doesn't give a crap, the Markham parent group really think they did something by winning the toilet bowl games. It actually shows how far down the food chain waxers are they can only compete and beat teams when the other team doesn't care.

WINNING THE ETA'S IS ABOUT AS EXCITING AS KISSING YOUR SISTER, WHICH IS NOT GOOD.

Let's get this straight, Markham started this season with no one giving them hope (as they should at the start). Finished in fourth with a brand new team,kept most games close with all the big teams, had all players committed til end of year (which SCC didn't). Tied Whitby, lost to the famous SCC team with 6 seconds left on a 6 on 3 in December. Played Barrie very well in playoffs, beat both Oshawa and Clarington in ETA's (who have been together as a team for alot longer) and still gets no credit. They may not be the best team out there,but give credit to a bunch of kids playing hard all year long.

The weak AAA teams should play the top AA teams in their loop in a best of 7 and the loser gets relegated. Sounds fair to me. Start by SCC playing Stouffville Clippers AA (which was an A team last yr and about to wim OMHA's). Let the games begin.
