So what's happening with the 96 AA east division? Lots of new coaches , lots of rumors of players moving around due to new coaches and three orgs are not fielding a team. So what's the news?

The best teams still looking are probably Colts and Bruins, I've heard both still have a couple openings.
Not sure about others.

lots of players parting ways and just going to play with friends as coaching changes are huge plus no WBH, NO TC, NO TRT....I predict a lot of kids won't sign at try outs but wait it out just like in AAA. Lots of choices this year with AAA, MIDget and Midget JR.....

There is no JR (96's) showing next to the TC. They are listed on the team entries of the GTHL website as MM AA and under the tryouts as MM AA. They will not be part of the same standings as the JR 96's.

Again, the information on the Colts website does not match what is on the tryout information or the GTHL confirmed 2012-13 team entries. Which one do you think people should follow? Which one would be correct? Is the GTHL not the main source of information, and if it was a mistake, why is it taking them weeks and weeks to correct this if in fact the TC are supposed to be Midget JR AA (96s)

How many PP goals did they score? They stay down every time they get hit looking for the ref to make a call.

A character team? Not so much.

Unfortunately 1:24 they played a full schedule of games against the East and were well known for diving and/or staying down after being hit. Like everyine has been saying....Skilled team but seriously lacking in the character department! Maybe the new coach can change that...or maybe that doesn't matter to you and a few of the other Dads!

Guess what? When you run a player who is 6" shorter and 40 lbs lighter than you, he might get hurt. Rather than sh*t talking those kids for getting knocke down, why isn't anyone applauding htem for getting back up and into the game? If they were of such poor character, how come none of them low bridged any of the goons who head-hunted them all season? It's hard to take it when a few small guys can stick handle circles around you. Show some character and just learn to live with it.

Re: 96 AA East player movement

The problem is they are tough little players but they stay down until the refs arm goes up and then spring back to life. They're the ones lacking the character. Hopefully for their sake the new coach will teach them what the last 2 clowns failed to do.
Don't even get me started on how embarrassing it should be for their parents.

Re: 96 AA East player movement

April 19 2012, 1:17 PM

As an ST parent, it's been interesting going on this thread, now having some perspective on NT.

I'll say this - NT has phenomenal puck pursuit. Once we stopped watching them and learned from them, we tied game 6 and won games 7 and 8, albeit in one goal games. NT has good speed and skill, and their positional play was very good defensively, I thought.

They had some size too, but to be honest those guys didn't grind it out nearly as hard as their smaller guys did, who had to fight their own battles and got into trouble.

You have to give credit where credit is due. The yapping, well, in the playoffs it get bad, it's extremely intense out there; there wasn't a whole lot of "free" space out there, and lots of confrontations build over 8 games.

Regardless of the outcome, it was entertaining to watch.

Re: 96 AA East player movement

April 19 2012, 2:52 PM

re 1:17

Not a bad assessment except you're missing one comparison that I thought made the series closer than it should have been: goaltending. Without this considerable advantage, NT would have lost much earlier. To put things in perspective, imagine if LA's Quick was playing against Philly Flyers (either one). It was that unbalanced. Sorry Tiger goalies but thats the way I saw it. NT did play hard though. So why the hate against them? It's because of the way they are coached. They don't play the honourable way. They look for teams susceptible to mind games and they are a master at playing mind games. I don't know if this is an insult or a complement cause they do it so well. Frankly i can't stand watching it, but thats one big reason why they are successful on the scoreboard.

If coaches were smart they would register the minimum and wait as this is the year that many players try to jump to AAA or Midget AA. The players will wait till the end to see if they are picked up. THese AA coaches if they were smart would wait and pick up a number of these players or goalies as they will have some of the best practices all summer and will be ready to start come September.

So are there only 10 teams in the east? I thought Toronto Colts were Major Midget this year and is it true that City Blues has folded? If that's the case then are there only 8 teams or 9 in the east for the upcoming season so far.

Colts have a Midget Jr. team according to their website. I think GTHL one is incorrect. TCB...nothing official but very few skaters out at tryouts. They have until Sept to register 15 players so they may wait and see before folding.

#10 got at least 30 goals last year. He also had the puck passed to him by #13. #73 and #19 looked strong when we played them last year. Both got 3 points each if I recall. Just because the team as a whole wasn't great, doesn't mean there werent a few decent parts. This coming from a former TC parent

Welcome to Midget, boys! If you think things are wierd now, wait until mid-season when players will decide they need to focus on school or they get their G2's. It is pretty standard to have 4 or 5 kids drop from all but the top teams. Bottom teams usually end the season with 10 players or less.

Lack of NT turnover due to happy kids who are already playing with good friends with lots of success.

12:35 Come on. We played you at least seven times this year. Know your team very well. You rely on one line, power plays and goaltending. Those factors were good enough to beat us but at least four forwards and three defence are way below average. Guess you don't keep +/- stats on your team.

Ok, lets see 16 year olds playing under 21, getting 6 minutes of ice a game, getting hit all over the ice, hurt most of the year. 3rd and fourth line AAA 96 players getting 6 minutes or less a game in AAA go mjr., play on a team with some friends and some good players getting 15 to 20 minutes of ice. Hmmm wake up. You can play AA mjr. and be ready for midget AAA the next year and have a good AAA year because you were healthy. Lots of second year players get drafted at this age. Development domes from playing in games and touching the puck. Development does not come from being on the bench.

Very few teams carry a full 19 players. I can count on one hand between the East and West who carried 19 players. Parents are going to pay between 300 to 4000 a year for approx. 12 mins of ice time has a forward, think again. Poster above is so wrong many teams are missing pieces of the team.

As the boys get older if a team has an opportunity to sign 2 extra players that can contribute they would be wise to do so. Suspensions, new concussion rules, work, education and HS hockey makes it a wise decision. Most good teams will play 65-70 games per year with 15 min periods does hurt to have 1 or 2 extra. The parent who bitches will be the first to go on a week`s holiday and take little Johnny with them.

5:55 I know where you are from. You guys have been trying to find one or two players to join your whining little boys for the last few weeks. Guess what? Nobody wants to go. Your mistake was keeping all those kids together. Many shouldn't be on that team. We are not going to share ice time with a kid who can barely skate and others who are too slow. Better to find another good AA team with less players or keep skating with our AAA team until we have to make a decision. But sharing that much ice time? No thanks.

6:38 Weird advertising. Why no team name? And you and every other team are looking for a forward and a Defense.

If NT has entered a team in this tournament with no sanctions please convince ST to enter a team.

ST took a few games to figure out how to beat NT, and then just barely did. Last year's LF would have given ST a good run... if LF had not tanked in the East playoffs. ST would have annihilated every other team in the East. TC played a similar style of game, but had only 2 finishers and would have given away 30lbs per player. TRT... RIP! All the other pretenders... please.
