Do you listen to other parents to find out about your team or new team or do you call the coach directly?

Coach is only one who knows who's coming or who's going.

HOnestly do both, the coach will tell you what you want to hear. he is not going to tell you your son will be on the third line. Should go to a few games or have watched parents during play offs, Clancy whatever to see how they react and interact with each other. And if you read between the lines on this forum ONLY occasionally you will find part truths.....

Dont trust parents. They lie and are deceitful. They de-commit a day or two before tryouts! They can't make a decision. They are dishonest.

I like most people but some hockey parents have some of the worst character flaws.

Talk to coach and parents for a well rounded answer.
Watch the team play and try to evaluate what would make your kid an asset to the team.
i.e.If they are top heavy in finesse players and your guys a grinder that would be a plus.
Watch the team practice and see what the team really has to offer in terms of development.
Unfortunately at this point you are behind the 8 ball if you haven't already done your homework.

I agree but the problem is that teams change from year to year.
