How long will the 96AAA kids hang on waiting to sign with a midget team ?

What are the odds that these kids (96AAA players) are going to make a AAA Midget team this year if they haven't signed by now? Lots of competition for very few spots. There are too many 95's out there.

You will find Midget or Midget SR AA very light with activity for try outs as many kids will skate for the summer with hopes of being picked up. Some will some will drop down to Midget AA and The 96'ers can still get on a MIdget JR AA so there is plenty of room, worse case scenario there is A hockey and still high school hockey. Just stay active and keep trying if you want it bad enough, dont let adults hold you back kids.....

Where do they have Midget AAA tryouts going on? In our area, they don't happen till the fall.

The G has what they call tryouts now but they are just fund raisers. Almost every team signs very few players and then they invite everyone out to skate with the "team" all summer to put even more money in the pockets of the coaches. Teams are not picked until the fall. Great little scam.

Many AAA teams will carry at the very least 60% '95s. So thats about 12 out of 20 players. 8 spots remaining. Most have probably only signed maybe 4 '96s os far(?). So from the MM team there are probably another 12 that are unsigned and awaiting summer skates. That's to take only 4 spots. So approx. 8 will not make the midget team. And now come Sept these 8 need to find a team??
GOOD LUCK finding a decent AA team!!

also need to take into account the 2 or 3 per team that WILL move up to another level or play Prep.
So down to only 5 per team....

Hey AA people wake up! Last year with the 95 age group some AAA guys could not find a spot in Sept and went to AA teams and took spots on those teams. Guess what happened the AA coach cut 2 players on our team and these AAA players became our 2 top forwards. IF you think because you signed with a AA team in the spring that your position with the team is solid think again. The AA coaches want to have a good team also and will cut players to make room. All part of the Midget loop.

They don't need to find a decent AA team they will form one. How about if 8 of these AA or AAA dropdown kids all go to the same team such as the MNS (just an example)? They will then have a very good team. That is why teams don't fold until the fall. What may look like a bad team now could be the team to beat in the fall. I have seen it happen many times before. It helps to have been through this twice already.

Midget AAA coaches will take a 96 over a 95 if they about the same in skill because there is more upside and the possibility that the kid will stay for 2 years. A team of ok 95's will mean a full rebuild the following year.

Continuity in Midget AAA almost completely gone- don't believe anything you hear about a 96 taking a spot so he will be part of the program next year. Teams will be completely new again next year- elimination of 2 year card ensured this even though there was a lot of movement at midget in previous years anyways. Midget is about winning now as all players want to move up as soon as they can and the last thing they are thinking about is how good we will be next year on this team.

Problem is some 95 kids know this is there last year of hockey before University. If they did not make a JR A team they are less interested in playing and their attitude is different. Coach will prefer a coachable 96 than a 95.

Not so sure, check out the Rebels at Midget and their formula of taking grade 12 players (second year players). Seems to have worked pretty well the past 2 years.

Works for the Rebels because they have a good coach and a good program. The others team who have tried it end up scrambling and end up with the weaker ones. My kid is a 94 and just went thru it.

Like most keep skating. If worried about making a AAA squad or has friends he wants to play with, then call a AA team.

So how do you attend all these skates? Just call the coach? Will he eventually say no thanks if he doesn't think you have a chance? All standard skate fees each time you go out on the ice? That has to start adding up after awhile?

Saw this message on the 96AAA goalie board regarding waiting till Sept. I have blocked the team the blogger posted, so as not to offend any. Thought provoking comment for players as well as goalies, as we near the end of the 'kids' organized hockey life. If I spend this $$, do I not want my kid to have fun going to a team where he has some friends???

"Better make sure you are the first few out of the gate looking for a new team in September... hope you find a good one and not end up on a XX type AA team that will demotivate your kid from wanting to play goal again. Lots of crappy teams looking for goalies!"

Coaches are now in the "waiting til Aug/Sept" mind set, so would they even sign a new kid right now?

I was just wondering how come in the GTHL and Im not sure about OMHA that you even have Midget tryouts in the spring. Here in the Alliance not of our teams try out till end of August early September. That way the players can go to their Junior tryouts and see where they end up and coaches dont select players in Spring to have them bail on them in the fall because they have signed a Junior card. Is there a reason for this, I just dont really understand the concept?

1:06pm My son's team plays in the OMHA, specifically the SCTA and they have 3 spring tryouts. He also indicated he would not be signing anyone to cards until the fall.

He uses these spring skates to guage talent levels, interest and calibre of players interested in playing midget AAA. Nothing more.

Hearing about some kids folding under the pressure of seeing much better kids at the skates so far. Looking for teams now but many teams are either full at that position or waiting for something better in Sept.

11:28 - Fuck you spermburper. Not all of us suck the coach off and hire an advisor and know certain people in a certain organization just to get your kid drafted in the late rounds. Most of our kid's tried hard work and honesty to get into the upper levels of hockey. Now scumbag cheaters like you have taken a spot from kids who were trying to earn it honestly...not like dishonest scumbags like you.

Very few kids for given in and if they have perhaps the AAA coach told him that they were not going to make the team now. Skates go on all summer long its excellent practice time if nothing else.
