Does a Midget player need a release from the home centre of he wants to go elsewhere or are they able to choose where they would like to play? I have heard conflicting answers and need some clarification.

What home centre? My son plays in an LOR centre and we were told no releases.

Depends on where he played last year. GTHL? Free agent. OMHA? No such luck.

So, what about a player that got a release in first year midget. Is it a two-year card.

If you played in the OMHA you are automatically on a 2 year card with that team. The only way out is to be released by that team but they have the right to keep you and offer you a card within 14days of tryouts. If you refuse the card you can take it to a hearing with the OHF but pretty hard to get out once offered a card.
