What can people tell us about this tournament. Is it worth the drive
and a good experience for the boys? Thanks!

Re: Chowder Cup 96&97

We went last year, have a 96 son.

The hockey wasn't that great and with only 3 guarranteed games it was hardly worth the cost. We enjoyed the trip itself though, as we made it into a family vacation. Boston is a great city with much to do. The weather was spectacular and got to see the Blue Jays-Red Sox at Fenway. Not much of a baseball fan, but glad I went.

Saw only a smattering of college jackets/scouts. I think the older divisions (junior?) probably get more attention.

Will we do it again? Perhaps in a few years if there seems to be interest in our son. I do know that James De Haas of the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots got an offer from Clarkson U last sumemr after participating, although again he is a 94 birth date.

If you're just going for hockey, it is not worth the cash. If you make it into a vacation we found it worthwhile.

Oh yeah, we had a trip planned to one of the colleges in the area that play hockey, I think it was supposed to be Northeastern. Never hapened as the rain on that day prevented a walk-around.

Good luck.

Thank-you. If accurate it match's my feelings on how valuable this would be for my 96 son. I thought it was "ileagal" to offer scholarships to grade 10 kids (Sophmore's?). Good synopsis.

A 96 boy can be approached once he has completed his grade 10 or sophomore year in June 2012. De Haas was legal and a 96 boy attending could be approached and made an offer.

On the flip side, there are already 96 kids who have "committed" to US D1 schools, Lemieux and Evans come to mind. Not sure how the schools legitimize this, but apparently where there's a will there's a way!

We went last year with a 96 team. Found the hockey to be very competitive - as with the other poster - turned it into a minivacation by touring the Boston and coast area. One game per day leaves lots of time for tourist/vacation stuff.

Games are played in and around Foxborough about 35-40 minutes from downtown Boston. Actually about half way between Boston and Providence Rhode Island.

If you are your taking your kids for the purpose of being seen, Its too early its for junior plus age kids. But if you are looking for good quality summer hockey and some great sight seeing and perhaps a visit to a university or two then go for it. The players of this age are not allowed to be approached by anyone.

There is nothing Chowder about it. Crappy tournament and nothing close to any Canadian tournament, even the bad ones. Last year we stayed an extra three days and that was the only positive. Get ready to fork out close to 2k for this masterpiece.

Same old crap, why do Canadian teams go to U.S. or European hockey tournys ? you don't see U.S. baseball or European Soccer teams coming to Canada for theier respective sport for tournys.

Hockey is Canada and Canada is hockey.

Too many stupid Canadian hockey organizations out there with infiority complexes thinking that the U.S. or Europe are the places to go for hockey.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn near the arena, (New Bedford exit). Pretty nice...if your kid is registered he stays at a different hotel with his team.

Was at the Hub City tournament there about 2 weeks ago...lot of fun, hell of a drive tho'.
