Cold enough to start thinking of hockey again....

Any further updates on the "on the edge" teams:

Aves?

Aeros?

Kings?

Also lots of boys playing 3on 3 this summer especially at Canlan.

He coaches if you want to call it that in Richmond Hill or Thornhill.

There are some good teams that enter the Hillcrest tournament,
I would try the Toronto Aces Tourn.-Sept 4-9,
or the West Mall Lightning Tourn.-Sept 5-9.
Fewer teams enter those two tournaments.

Hillcrest has 4 games guaranteed..games are played over a one week period. But, its a many grab. The 4 games is great.

Richmond Hill Stars has a good tournament as well. play teams that you will not meet up with in the GTHL

The Hillcrest Tournament is a big money grab.

They will put as many teams as possibile in one gruop like they did last year 14 plus and only 4 go through.

They will schedule strong teams against weak teams, they don't care who enters.

It's a joke.

LSF
GPR
SIR

LK
WH
TP

HC
TCB
TC
TA

I thinking those groupings, any order. Basically have 3AA teams, 3 select teams, and 2 tiers of decent A teams. Though tbh who the knows. I thought wbh would cake walk last year, and turned out they didn't like contact hockey.

WBH Top 3? Are you serious. Everyone figured out that except for one or two players, none of those kids could hit and they really hated getting hit.

This year, all you have to do is take em into the corners and leave em there.

The won so many games last year because no one wanted to knock them off the puck. Hit the 3 fast kids and the rest will fall into line.

Really now, 'everyone' figured it out....
I think only NYK 'figured' them out in the playoffs 3 games to 1.
And it wasn't only hitting them-it was great goaltending, timely scoring and
team play. Remember NYK shutout WHB 1-0 to eliminate them , a team that scored over 200 goals during the season.

WBH still has the most talented team. Theirs a reason most of the teams cant beat them, "hit the 3 fast kids..." you cant CATCH the 3 fast kids you idiot. that's why their called the "FAST KIDS"

NYK beat them, because the best player in the league was on NYK and was able to score and NYK had better over all team defense, then the WBH did.

Re: GTHL 1997 A East 2012/2013

August 7 2012, 2:38 PM

Best teams have at least 4 finishers (25+ goals) and 4 strong D-men with a whole supporting cast that can play at the rep level!

Forwards:

If your kid scores around 10 to 15 goals (and is not a goal suck) in the regular season A is the right home for him!

If your kid scores 9 or less he is a bottom end player.

Top players score 25+ in the regular season and should move up to test the waters.

D-men:

If your kid has a good +- and scores 2-9 goals A is right for him!

If your kid has a bad +- and has 0-1 goals he's a bottom end player.

If your kid has a great +- and has 10+ goals he should move up.

Goalies (We all know which ones can play at a higher level, which ones are home and which are bottom end) or we should!!!

Beware the parent coach, all he cares about his kid! Coaches have away of making a player look good or look bad if his kid only looks good it means the kid is not that great but dad/coach is making him look better than he really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which teams have a parent coach?

Hey 2:10 I agree the kids are fast but they're hardly unbeatable. The NYK were all over the Balckhawks and their goalies.

This year will definitely be different for WBH. Unless they sign a real goalie or teach basic body contact they might just make the play-offs.

Entirely new team for Aces, no one stayed.

Last year's roster fled this way:

3 to LK AA
5 to TCB A (!)
3 to LK A
1 to TC
2 back to HL

2 unknown- 1 was C, best player on team but import, so had lots of choice. Other was coach's son, enough said.

Its A hockey. if your that DESPERATE for a better loop then dont be such a fucking pussy, and take your kid to AA. Seriously, your a fucking idiot.

(my baby didnt make the worst AA team in the city) maybe i can convince everyone to get rid of half the A teams, then i'll still feel like a special little flower, because baby boy will feel exclusive!

GPT, TP and TRT will have the best goalies. Hillcrest will aslo have a decent pair as well.

TRT will be the best period with all the good recruits including the MI star, WHGH big D and BIG Goalie for GPR. Super Mario is very happy.

YM will be the most improved, MI biggest drop.

(HL and A hockey one player can make all the difference on a team) AA not so much and AAA even more not so much!!!!!

I hear a few years back one of the top AA teams cut him at the end of the year, even though he was one of the top scorers because he and mommy are F$%KED in the head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didnt the Knights win the city last year, with 1 finisher, and just a solid all around team? So dont say "you need this or that" Cause you dont... Their might be 5 finishers in the entire East..

(25 goal season, with 20 goals against the bottom 3 does not make you a finisher)

Actually, their might only be 3 real finishers in the east....
that kid TRT got from MI, the NYK kid is gone again so hes off the list, the WBH kid *winger, cant remember his number*, and the kid from LK last year, think he went to MI...

Hey 6;49 pm -- here are the standings for 2011/12
pts

1 Markham Islanders 63
2 North York Knights 60
3 North Toronto 45
4 Scarborough Y B 40
5 Toronto City Blues 38
6 Willowdale 36
7 Leaside Flames 35
8 Toronto Penguins 29
9 East Ender Ticats 24
10 Goulding Park 20
11 Leaside Kings 6

4th to 7th place was a 5 point spread , not very much

WBH's had a terrible coach, he didn't how to utilize all his players

The 3 star d.men were responsible for many, many goals in the playoff series vs NT

Playing one of his top scoring players on d. instead of playing a tough forward that could also play d. vs NT in the playoffs ???

Over playing certain players that were not clicking and so on and so on.

NT coach out coached him in many aspects.

Hey what the heck J.M. already had cut a deal with YM for more money knowing he was going to bring 4 players with him.

Too bad YM picked up one of the five worst players in AA (The four others were also on TP)

Heads up coach, this kid has 0 discipline when it comes to listing to the coach.

He will stay out of corners even if he is three feet from the puck and the other teams players are 10 feet away.

He wouldn't break a grape in a fruit fight.

If you can fix those things you might have a player because he can skate and pass.

Good luck YM

P.s JM is a good coach that can get a lot out of a player, he just has to soft a heart for shit players (I call it the RUDY effect) and that’s his down fall!!!

As for playing a strong forward on D, is it not the dad of that player that says his son is the best forward in the loop and is even better on D?

Any other coach would not have granted a kids release on theirs and their mothers request, JM stayed true to his word that he wouldn't want to coach a kid if he didn't want to play for him!

That kid and mother learned that there are no #99's in AA, so went back to A were there are!

JM is a good coach (but he can't scout goalies)wink.gif!!!

Wow good move YM

#87 will get you over 25G - 25A in A

#19 will get you over 25G - 25A in A

#12 will get you 10 to 15G - 10 to 15A in A

#22 will stop 40+GA in A

4 pick-ups I'd say 150GF - 75GA Top 5 team

YM made the big moves this year:

2011/2012
16th York Mills 36GP - 4W - 28L - 4T - 43GF - 153GA - 12Pts

2012/2013
5th York Mills 36GP - 23W - 10L - 3T - 150GF - 75GA - 49Pts

Go YM Go

In A hockey there is a lot more contact than AA and AAA because it is slower.

In AA there is more contact than AAA because it is slower.

The difference is that in A the hits are with less force because its slower and the same from AA to AAA.

= In A you get hit a lot more because of speed.

= In AA there is less hitting than A but the hits are harder.

= In AAA there is less hitting than AA but if you get caught (lights out).

If your kid is a pussy he's fucked in all three!!!

Rep A speed

Rep AA more speed

Rep AAA most speed

Re: GTHL 1997 A East 2012/2013

August 22 2012, 2:10 PM

umm... There is very, very, very little hitting in A.

The kids aren't talented enough to line someone up properly, nor do they have the killer instinct they do in AA & AAA, i'd agree in AAA their is not as much hitting. AA is easily the highest level of contact.

AAA you have big athletes, who are a high skill level. They love to hit, but are hard to hit!

AA you have big athletes with a lower skill level, They love to hit, and are pretty easy to hit.

A you have mostly small less athletic kids, with a lower skill level. They dont have the ability, or the speed to play a hard hitting dump and chase like in AA.

As well, any hit in A that knocks someone down ends up being a 1 game hit from behind, or a 3 game head shot.

Above in AAA there are around 15-25 kids that don't belong there and in AA there are 15-25 kids that do!

So please stop with your NYR, DMF kid playing all-star!

Fake AAA PIMP

Just like in A there are some kids that sould be AA and in rare cases AAA!!!!

GTHL 1997 A East 2102/2013

August 23 2012, 9:47 AM

NT will win the division and the city. They picked up 3 outstanding AAA players to add to an existing team that is pretty good.
WBH will be a real force in regular season as will NYK.
It is questionable wether WBH can play in play - off type hockey. They have not proved this yet.

For the rest anyones guess - WM will be strengthened by the influx of some players but weakened by a coach who never played hockey, GPR will be a shade weaker but will still show well.TRT will always be strong at this level , they do have a number of players who could play AA but choose not to.
MI have picked up a Stoufville AA player and the player from LK who is a goal scorer.YM have picked up some of the weaker WBH AA players but they are still good players and will help this team. HC will be respectable as always.
SIR - seems all quiet which is usually a good omen.

My prediction for top 7;
NT
WBH
NYK
TRT
MI
GPR
SIR

LK

After taking the summer off and coming back to see what's been happening, I see the same old poster-boys have been hard at work. My only request is that we save all these predictions so that we can have a good laugh around Christmas. Aside from a couple of tidbits, most of you are just putting your own spin on all of this without any real knowledge. However,in the spirit of pre-season bullshit, I will say WBH, TRT, NT & YM should be top 4 (at least a couple of the ex-WBH AA pick-ups will be dominant A players). It will be a dog-fight for next 4 play-off spots; hopefully a couple of surprise teams make it into the mix. And I'll go out on a limb and say MI won't be in that fight.

Re: GTHL 1997 A East 2012/2013

August 23 2012, 10:51 AM

TRT - their due, They've worked hard, for a long time and finished 2nd in the playoffs. The team had grit, and got better all year. They've added some major pieces, a legitimate #1 D from WHGH, and arguably the best playmaker in the league in WS... Good job SuperMario!!

NT - The most talented team in the league, Truth is if this team worked hard all season their would likely be no competition. But they dont seem to be all that stressed out about winning, so they will skill their way to top 2

WBH - Had a great season last year, I wouldn't say they were "exposed" in the playoffs as a weaker team, More so they lost a really good series to the team that eventually won the city. Games could have gone either way.

NYK - Always been a good team, will Always be top 5... The team works hard all the time. Losing 94 is a massive blow to their scoring. But they have good goalies, and they have always been well coached. (new coach this year) so time will tell. Still cant see them falling off the top 4

YM - last year they were a first year team. had good goalies, and got better towards the end. EC from WBH is a huge add on in AA let alone A. Hes not a "lower level AA player". If they added D and a little size they can make some noise.

LF - good team, added a good player from LF AA and their captain is a game changer. If their a bit faster this year, and handle the puck a bit better look for them to jump a few spots higher then this!

GPR - Seemed to lose a bit of momentum last year towards the end, Still a very talented team with 2 very good scorers. If you want to beat them, your not going to out skill them!

MI - I heard they got the scorer from LK, They better hope they did, because with WS gone to TRT their going to be hurting to score. Their whole team can play, but their not a big team, not the most athletic team.

TP - AAA Drop down half way threw the season took them from arguably the worst team in the league, to a playoff contender. Another example of how 1 kid can make a huge difference in A hockey. Heard they may have turned over another rock and found another stroke of luck player, but only time will tell.

SIR - Their a good, hard working team with decent size. But their short on the scoring end, and if your going to trap as much as them, you need to be able to bury the few chances you'll get.

WHGH - Lost a lot.. Top D to TRT, next D to AA, best 2 scorers went House League, best forward to AA, and i a couple more spread out around A... This team every year seems to lose all their best players. But they must be doing something right, because every year they find a group of 5 or 6 to come together and keep them in the conversation... Would be interesting to see how good this team would have been had they kept HALF of the talent the teams had in the last 3 seasons though.

Now for everyone else...

HC - Best of the worst, Last season had a bit of skill and were able to be competitive most nights. Still don't see them getting out of the basement.

TCB - Lost half their team, took half from the ACES... there's an upgrade!

TC - Same as always

TA - Will win some games because of AA call ups

LK - If they have a team

ACE - after losing an entire team, and getting nobody, how the hell did they get a team together?

Well, that was a great way to kill half the morning! Time for work! Good luck everyone, lets just hope we have a fun season!

put a smile on my face, seeing a different player come up big every game was huge.

Wonder where this is coming from? Had a great time in Hearst, how many OHF'S have you been to? quite an experience i must say, wish all players could enjoy it.

Sorry you are still so bitter about #94 leaving, he wanted to play on a real team ( not the imaginary one you were selling) the other player from the NYK you would not release sat out the remainder of the season..tells you something about that team.

I can assure you he has moved on and could not care less .. unfortunately for you, you have issues and can't help but bash him over and over on these threads, that is sad really. Hope this gives you some type of closure, that ship has sailed buddy time to move on.

He is still with the knights...and will enjoy every minute of it.

Cheers

Is NT going to be that good ? At the begining of every year they are projected to win it all , yet at best , they win one playoof series.
My top 8 looks like this :

WBH - Most skilled team
TRT - Hungry team
NT - Good regular season team
YM - because everyone is saying top 4
NYK - This is where they finished last year
LF - Solid team
GPR - still have talent
TP - hard working team

TP 97A was very strong at the end of last season (with help from 98AA) HOW MANY DID THEY HAND ON TO?

Would think that many of the ones that got benched so the 98s could play will not be back but that was most likely the plan.

Did they keep the kep players? x MM AAA/LF AA centre and a few others.

TP AAA player didnt improve the team much at all. Did not score a lot of goals and got an average number of assists. He was more of a confidence booster if anything. TP has basically the same team again this year with most of the same players and very few losses, all of which were replaced with solid new players. If TP can start the year with their full potential they could hit top 5 forsure.

Is TP 8th to 10th with or without the 98AA call-ups?

You need to give the 98AA call up thing a rest, TP had 4-6 players injured for the end of the season and needed the 4 call ups to play.

True. It's just one round of games, maybe a dogfight for 8th spot and it's over. Makes 4 teams work just a bit harder and hurts no one. Why all the angst about playoffs 7 months away?
